Mattie M. Marshall, 88, of Kansas City, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at her home.Â
Mattie was born April 29, 1924, in Ozark, Ark., to Jim and Esther Walls. Mattie married Floyd H. Waite and had five sons, Floyd, Jim, Larry, Roger and Carl. Mattie married William B. Marshall and had one daughter, Cindy Wiggins. Mattie worked for Riches Coin Laundry Mat for 39 years. Mattie is preceded in death by her husbands and two brothers, Sidney and J.C. Walls.
Betty Jo Dockery Holman, 85, of Sallisaw died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Sallisaw.
She was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Sallisaw to Dolly â€śEllaâ€ť Palmer and James Dockery. She married Hubert Holman April 8, 1948. She was the co-founder and owner of Wild Horse Mountain Bar-B-Que and longtime devoted member and prayer warrior of the Sallisaw Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker and served as a Cub Scout leader while living in California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Bill Cheek and Walter Raney.
Laura â€śCharleneâ€ť King, 81, of Poteau, formerly of Heavener, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Heavener.
Walter Joe Cheely, 85, of Chino, Calif., died Nov. 12, 2012, in Chino.
Walter was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Shady Point to James and Maybelle (Foote) Cheely. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy in Italy and Guam. He was a 1946 graduate of Poteau High School. He got his BA at Northeastern and later obtained his masterâ€™s degree. Walter taught school for two years at Fox, 10 years at Derby, Kan., and 30 years in California. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Charlene Stanley.
Ruth Wilson, 79, of Poteau died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Ruth was born July 6, 1933, in Glendale to Wilburn Perry and Ida Mae (Balentine) Glenn. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau. She was a retired hair dresser. The love of Ruthâ€™s life was the Special Olympics and the Democratic Party. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Lawrence, Loren, Cecil, John, Oscar and Fred; and son, Jerry Bob Thompson.
Saturday, from noon until 3 p.m., the Heavener American Legion Post will play host for a Veterans Christmas Dinner.
The Rednecks and Reindeer fun run is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe, followed by a barbecue dinner and auction fundraiser for the Bobbie and Frank Morrison family at 5 p.m.
