VIAN — The Vian Wolverines showed the Heavener Wolves why they are ranked sixth in the Class 2A Poll Friday night as the Wolverines handled the Wolves 55-0 in a District 2A-6 contest.
WILBURTON — Sometimes extra points are taken for granted. The Pocola Indians may not think that way from now on.
The Indians missed an extra point, then tried to make up for that with a two-point conversion attempt on the second score and missed it. Thus, they suffered a 14-13 loss to the Wilburton Diggers Friday night in a District 2A-6 game.
The Poteau seventh-eighth-ninth grade football teams went 2-1 on Thursday at Costner Stadium against the visiting Sallisaw Black Diamonds.
The Poteau freshmen handled the Black Diamonds 26-8, which came on the heels of the eighth-grade team's 28-0 shutout. The festivities opened with Sallisaw winning the seventh-grade game 6-0.
WISTER — For two LeFlore County baseball teams, one was a very ecstatic squad and the other was a very somber one.
The Wister Wildcats qualified for state for the fourth straight season, dating back to the 2010 spring season, as they defeated the Cameron Yellowjackets 13-4 in the consolation championship game of the Class A Regional Tournament Friday afternoon.
It capped off a two-game spurt of staving off elimination for the ’Cats (21-3), who were upset by the ’Jackets (21-9) in the very first day of the tournament Thursday afternoon by a score of 9-6.
KONAWA — The Panama Lady Razorbacks softball team will have one more week in its season.
The Lady ’Backs won the Class 2A Regional Tournament Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Calera.
The Lady Razorbacks made it to the regional title game with a 7-0 victory over Ringling, then a 10-1 win over tournament-host Konawa on Thursday.
The Lady Razorbacks (25-9) will find out on Monday who and when they will play their Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinal game at Oklahoma City's Hall of Fame Stadium (which will likely be on Thursday).
HENRYETTA — The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon with a 12-11 loss to the Keys (Park Hill) Lady Cougars in the loser's-bracket final of the Class 3A Regional Tournament.
The Lady Wolves split their first two games on Thursday, beating Keys (Park Hill) 5-4 but losing 5-2 to host Henryetta.
The Lady Wolves end the season at 28-10.
ATOKA — The Wister Lady Wildcats softball team got to within one game of playing for the Class 2A Regional Tournament championship game, but the Lady ‘Cats suffered a 15-8 loss to tournament host Tushka on Friday to see their season come to an end.
Wister split their two games Thursday in the tournament's first day as they lost 4-3 to Tushka, but then defeated Crowder 13-4.
The Lady Wildcats end the season at 21-15.
TAHLEQUAH — The good news is that the Spiro Lady Bulldogs softball team made some history this week by getting to the Class 3A Regional Tournament for the first time in the program's history. Unfortunately, they ran into the host team in the title game and a trip to state at stake.
After avenging Wednesday's loss to Beggs in the first day of the regional tournament with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Golden Demons Thursday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs lost 8-2 to tournament-host Sequoyah-Tahlequah in the title game to see their season end at 20-10.
