The General Store on Witte will hold a clothing giveaway from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 31, at 104 N. Witte St.
Sizes range from children's to adult, according to owner Darleen Seaman.
Seaman said she started accepting donations for the giveaway last week and "we got an enormous amount — which is what we wanted." She will accept additional donations beginning Wednesday, she said.
Poteau Main Street Matters is providing tables for the event.
A similar giveaway in April "was an amazing blessing," Seaman said.
Oklahoma anglers can fish for free during Free Fishing Days June 1-2. During these days, a state fishing license will not be required for anglers to go fishing in Oklahoma, whereas in most other cases a license is required. Additionally, an Oklahoma City fishing permit will not be required for fishing those waters where the permit is normally mandatory.
The Poteau Frontier Rodeo kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. at the Phil Gardenhire Arena at the LeFlore County Fairgrounds west of Poteau.
Saturday night events begin at 7 p.m.
For Poteau Pirates football fans, there’s some good news and some not-so-good news.
The not-so-good news is that the strength of last year’s team, the offensive line, only returns one starter, Stephen Smith. Gone is 1,500 pounds of people movers and lane creaters.
However, the good news is Roger Barcheers, who was the 2012 All-Arklahoma Football Team’s Freshmen of the Year, had more than 1,500 yards rushing in his freshman year, and will be back for his sophomore season in the fall, as will quarterback Jace Pitchford and wide receiver Jarrett Lowrimore to name just a few.

Poteau's Hannah Ward and Cody Shore, along with Cameron's Kody Whitehead, will represent the area in the event.
Ward won her second straight Class 4A state title earlier this month, while Shore was fourth in the state tournament to be the highest Pirate finisher since Zac Poole was state runner-up in 2004.
Whitehead was 11th at the Class 2A State Tournament earlier this month.
Earlier this month, the Poteau Pirates soccer team brought home a state championship. However, before 2013 a local motorcycle racer brought home a national title.
Bart Winters, who works at Cargill's Yamaha in Poteau, won the Vintage National Championship Series.
“I raced in about 10 races last year,” said Winters. “I worked pretty hard for it, so it felt pretty good.”
However, it wasn't the only title Winters brought home. He also won a grand prix race at Hallett, located about 30 miles west ot Tulsa.
God gives us four seasons, all of which are special in their own way.
We have summer when outdoorsmen can pick blackberries, noodle for catfish or just catch fish the normal way by actually fishing for them — although I love grabbing those big flatheads with my hands.
We then have fall, which I look forward to each year with great anticipation. The squirrel and duck hunting, along with chasing after whitetail deer consumes me.
Winter has more duck hunting and chasing predators, but then comes spring.
