No show: Foul weather hobbles Honobia Big Foot Fest

October 4, 2012

Recent rains and a chancy weather forecast have washed out this year’s Honobia Big Foot Conference and Festival, organizer Darryl Williams announced Wednesday.
The event was scheduled to run Friday through Sunday.
The festival was to be held in a hay field on Mood Dog Ranch, down 2.8 miles of dirt road, he said.
Williams said organizers are planning improvements to the site so that an all-weather festival can be held next year.
He said progress updates will be posted on his website, www.HonobiaBigFootPRINT.com.

Wister senior boys glad for a sixth straight trip to state baseball tournament

October 4, 2012

WISTER — Last Friday, things were not looking too promising for the Wister Wildcats baseball team to keep the streak alive of seasons at state. At that moment, the streak stood at five.
After the ’Cats lost the Class A Regional Tournament title game 11-0 to host Rattan, they had to beat Tushka for a second time to make state as consolation champions.
With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, senior Tyler Gibson hit a two-run home run to propel the Wildcats to a 4-2 victory — and make it six straight seasons at state, dating back to May 2010.

Even with freshman, and current varsity, running back Roger Barcheers in street clothes on the sideline, the Pirates did not miss a beat as they routed the Wolverines 41-6.

The Mustangs lost their third straight district game last Friday night at Mustang Field, falling 53-8 to Southwest Covenant.
