Jury finds Oakes not guilty on Federal charges

September 21, 2011

A Poteau man who was indicted in Federal Court on
firearms charges was released from custody last
Wednesday after a jury found him not guilty.
Randall Wayne Oakes, 41, of Poteau was arrested in
May after an altercation that occurred at his home early
in the morning.
According to the affidavit, around 8 a.m. Tuesday
morning, Kasi Morgan Albert, 25, and John David
Albert II, 27, both of Poteau, arrived at a family member's
home on the corner of North Saddler and Gassaway
Drive to retrieve some of Kasi Albert’s belongings.

Beatrice Lewis, 92, of Spiro died Thursday, Sept. 15,
2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. Beatrice was born on Nov. 14,
1917. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Mt.
Triumph Baptist Church, Fort Coffee. Burial will be in
Fort Coffee Cemetery. The family will be at Evans and
Miller Funeral Home in Pocola from 6-8 p.m. Thursday to
visit with relatives and friends.

Annie Lou Witt, 82, of Wister died
Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in Wister. Annie
was born July 22, 1929, in Eufaula to Fred
and Ruby (Eskridge) Williams. She was a
restaurant cook. Annie was preceded in
death by her parents; son, Donald Adams;
daughter, Betty Adams; husband, Eschol
“Hank” Witt; three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell
J. and Ginger Adams of Wister; three daughters and sonsin-
law, Carolyn and Robert Gutierrez of Belton, Texas,
Reah and George Maynor of Wister, Linda and Garry

Billy Mack Ramer

Billy Mack Ramer, 79, of Poteau died
Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, in Talihina. Bill
was born July 31, 1932, in Red Oak to
Alvin and Ila Beatrice (McAlester) Ramer.
He was retired from Wister Schools. Bill
was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served
in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in
death by his parents and two brothers,
Norval Ramer and Johnny McGowen. Bill loved horses
and loved to trail ride.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Barragan of Santa
Anna, Calif.; two grandsons; three sisters and brothers-inlaw,
Gail Morrison of Poteau, Sue and Ronnie Burke of

Poteau pitcher throws second consecutive perfect game; Lady Pirates shut out Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds

Eight days before, Poteau softball pitcher Brenna Vise threw a perfect game against the Howe Lady Lions in the winner's-bracket quarterfinals of the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament.
Monday afternoon, Vise, who had not pitched since the Howe game, returned to the pitcher's circle and was “pitcher” perfect once more. Vise faced 18 batters, the minimum in a six-inning game, and struck out nine of them en route to an 8-0, six-inning, run-rule victory over the Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds.

Poteau Lady Pirates win own cross country meet for second straight year; Lady Wolves runners-up; Poteau, Heavener boys second, third, respectively, in Saturday's meet

There was a partial repeat for the Poteau High School cross country teams in their second annual Poteau Pirate Invitational, which took place Saturday morning at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Lady Pirates repeated as team champion with 29 points, with the other local team, Heavener, coming in second with 44 points.
