Billy Gene Armstrong, 70, of Roland died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was a mechanic. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.

Claud Ellen Baldwin Balentine

Claud Ellen Baldwin Balentine, 87, of Wister died Thursday, April 4, 2013, in Poteau. She was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Mansfield, Ark., to Claude Charles and Ellen (Rogers) Ellis. She worked in quality control for Rivals in Kansas City. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Howe. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Poteau restaurant destroyed in fire

The Arena Steakhouse, north of Poteau, was destroyed by fire Sunday evening.
According to fire personnel, the fire began just after 7 p.m. and appears to have begun near the kitchen.
Fire Departments from Poteau, Shady Point, Panama, Wister, Howe, Hogeye and Pocola responded to the fire.
The restaurant was not open for business when the fire occurred. No was was injured in the blaze.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Oklahoma Fire Marshal's Office.

Arkoma boys lose Friday to Hulbert in Gore Tournament

GORE — The Arkoma Mustangs baseball team suffered a 10-2 loss Friday morning to Hulbert in the Gore Tournament.
Because the Mustangs were playing in the LeFlore County Tournament on Friday afternoon at Town Creek Park, the Mustangs were forced to forfeit their loser’s-bracket game later in the day.

“A Bike for Daylon” will happen May 18. Daylon is a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy who wants a bike to ride with his family.

Poteau golfer wins at Hilldale, while Lady Pirates come in second; Poteau Boys Invitational set Monday at Choctaw Country Club

MUSKOGEE — Poteau golfer Hannah Ward, the defending Class 4A state champion, won the Hilldale Invitational on Friday afternoon. She shot a 73.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were second with a 366.
One other Lady Pirate medaled as Cathleen Manlove was 10th at 89.
Alyssa Vineyard shot a 94, followed by Skylynn Terry (110), Dallas Terry (111) and Jenna Stites (116).
The Lady Pirates will return to action at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Sallisaw Invitational.
The Poteau Boys Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at Choctaw Country Club.
