We just got through with the Poteau Freshmen Tournament and the first-ever Green Valley Conference Junior High Tournament last week, and now there's even more tournaments this week.
This week will be the weeklong Eastern Oklahoma State Classic, featuring Arkoma, Bokoshe, Howe, Leflore and Whitesboro, at both EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse and at the Wilburton High School Gym.
The 2012 Choctaw Nation Tournament, featuring host Talihina, Pocola and Wister, will be Thursday through Saturday on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
A total of 17 members of the Poteau Youth Wrestling Club placed in two weekend tournaments.
Of those 17, 15 of them were placers at the Fort Gibson Novice Tournament. Seven of those 15 members won their respective weight divisions.
JAY â€” The Poteau Pirates wrestling team placed eight of its matmen in last weekend's Jay Duals Tournament.
Senior Tyler Tustin won the 138-pound title and was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler.
Gabe Sanchez (195 pounds) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight) were runners-up, Devin Anderson (120) and Derek Francis (170) were third and Sam Shore (132), Kyle Kingrey (160) and Khy Mote (182) were all fourth.
Weldon Frieling, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Buffalo Valley. Services were held Monday, Dec. 3, at the Talihina Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Meyer officiating.Â Burial was in the Laura-McGee Cemetery.
Anthony Lynn Hill was born on May 3, 1984, in Weatherford, Texas, and died Nov. 30, 2012. He attended school in Weatherford until he moved to Stamford, Texas. He graduated from high school in Stamford in May 2003. He moved to Oklahoma in 2004 and worked in the oil fields.
Survivors include his parents, Bradley and Melissa Bean of Arkoma; his fiancĂ©, Shelby Fox of Clarksville, Ark.; grandparents, Charles and Sue Plowman of Poteau; great-grandmother, LaNelle McBride of Weatherford.
Helen L. Moore, 99, of Poteau died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in Poteau.
Helen was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Coalgate to John and Elizabeth (Fisher) Wood. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Poteau. She and Troy James Moore were married Aug. 25, 1933, in Talihina. She was preceded in death by Troy Nov. 4, 1982; her parents; daughter, Phyllis Ann Moore; great-granddaughter, Angela; siblings,Â Annie May Wood, John Fisher Wood, Margaret G. Wood, William John Wood, Bessie M. Wood, Lillian Mae Wood and George Fisher Wood
Ross Klutts, 87, of Poteau died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She was born July 1, 1925, in Oglesby, Ill., to William Derico and Maria Salina. Ross married Benny Klutts on Dec. 4, 1948, in Pryor.Â She was a registered nurse and served as director of nursing at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau.Â She was also a volunteer nurse for many years at the Poteau Primary and Upper Elementary schools and the Poteau Free Clinic at the Christian Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau.Â
Ross is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Ben.
Anthony J. Momberg, 82, of Cameron died November 30, 2012.
