POCOLA â€” The Pocola Indians played their first baseball game of the 2013 season Friday afternoon against theÂ Charleston (Ark.) Tigers,Â and hung tough until the last out but they were outlasted 6-3.
PANAMA â€” The Panama Razorbacks baseball team bounced back from its tough road loss Thursday to Cameron to handle the Panola Bearcats 12-2.
The Razorbacks scored three runs in the opening inning for a 3-0 lead and never trailed.
Hartford, Ark., 13, Arkoma 1: Friday in Arkoma, the Mustangs fell behind 6-0 by the third inning before Josh Marion scored Arkoma's lone run on an error in the third inning.
Heavener 9, Buffalo Valley 4; Kiowa 16, Heavener 6: Friday in Kiowa, the Wolves split Friday's games.
The first 2013 high school track meet of the season in LeFlore County will take place today as the Heavener Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harvey Stadium.
It will be the first track meet of the season for the host Wolves and Lady Wolves.
Other county teams expected to participate are Arkoma, Poteau and Spiro.
The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers baseball team took the first of its rivalry games from the Carl Albert State College Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
A three-run eighth inning broke a 4-all tie to enable the Mountaineers to beat the Vikings 8-5.
The Vikings will return to action this afternoon in a road doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist. Action in Little Rock is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The two teams split a twinbill Friday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field, with the Vikings winning the opener 9-0 but losing the nightcap 8-1.
Tuesday afternoon's Carl Albert State College softball doubleheader against Seminole State College in Shawnee has been canceled. The twinbill has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. April 2 in Shawnee.
The Lady Vikings will play Connors State College in a twinbill at 2 p.m. Thursday in Warner.
Wilma Jean Johnson, 80, of Panama died Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services held Monday, March 11. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Thelma Mae Black Whitmore, 77, of Bokoshe died away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Bokoshe.
Thelma was born August 10, 1935 in Milton to Luther and Ina Grace (Painter) Nixon. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church in Panama. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Glen Black and William Whitmore; brothers, Robert, Vernon, Jodie and Jimmie; and sisters, Lelia, Irene, Jeanita and Oteka.
Therral Ray McConnell, 74, of Poteau died Friday, March 8, 2013, in Poteau. Therral was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Paris, Ark., to Lewis and Sarah McConnell. He owned and operated McConnell Furniture Mfg. and McConnell Construction. He was a loving husband, Dad and Papa. He loved life, hunting, and storytelling. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene; brothers, Albert and Orville.Â
Come celebrate the end of Winter and beginning of Spring at the 24th Annual Family Kite Flite Day at the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center. The Kite Flite Day will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Normally there is an entry fee to the site but this will be a Free Day although donations are appreciated.
