TALIHINA — Two seasons ago, the Talihina Golden Tigers were one of the favorites to win the Class 2A state title on the gridiron, but that playoff run was abruptly halted by a heartbreaking loss to Colcord in the second round of the playoffs at Doc Robinson Stadium.
Last year, a five-game losing streak to end the season kept the Golden Tigers from being a playoff team.
Now, after a drop back into Class A and opening the season 8-0, the Golden Tigers find themselves back into the postseason parade.
PANAMA — When they were freshmen, sophomores and juniors, success was hard to come by for two Panama Razorback football players — quarterback Trevor Bourne and running back/defensive lineman Jacob Vick. During their sophomore season in 2010, the Hogs went 0-10. Finally, Panama's 17-game losing streak was snapped in a Week 8 victory over archrival Pocola in 2011.
POCOLA — It's been five years since the Pocola Indians have had a playoff game (2007). The current seniors were in middle school.
Now, those senior Indians will get the chance to end their high school football careers in the postseason.
The Indians will hit the road tonight to face the sixth-ranked Stroud Tigers for a 7:30 p.m. Class 2A playoff opener.

To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 9 west, past Sunset Corner, to U.S. Highway 59. Take U.S. 59 north to Sallisaw. Take Interstate 40 west to Exit 200 (Seminole-Prague exit). Take Oklahoma State Highway 99 north to Stroud.
SPIRO — Two years ago, the Spiro Bulldogs football team got to the Class 3A state quarterfinals before losing to Oklahoma City Heritage Hall. Unfortunately for senior Jermaine Jimmerson, he did not get to participate in that postseason due to breaking his leg in that season opener against Panama.
After the ’Dogs failed to make the playoffs last year, they are returning to postseason play beginning tonight. No one is happier about that than Jimmerson.
On Halloween night, we all went trick-or-treating in the Woods Addition. At the Repass house, Kevin and Val had a fire going, and they were making and handing out fresh s'mores along with their other Halloween candy. It was awesome. By the way, guys, I did go into your house and got a bottle of water. All that walking and talking to all those people made me so thirsty. Thanks again, guys.
I don't know how many different families I walked with because I lost my family in the crowd.
