Young performers entertain during Christmas open house at The Community State Bank

Hundreds of children filled the lobby of The Community State Bank Wednesday as school children sang Christmas carols and had their picture taken with Santa Claus.
The open house will also be held Thursday from 9:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.
Thursday's entertainers include students from Cameron, The Methodist Church, Choctaw Headstart, Kibois Headstart, Monroe and Poteau. Also performing is the Clark family, Makala Wood, 4His Glory, Leah Peters and Linzy Blankenship and Holly Cinocca.

Ruth Agnes Forehand, 94, of McAlester died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in McAlester. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Patey “Pate” Thornburg

Patey “Pate” Thornburg passed away in the wee hours of December 2, 2012, after 97 years of a full and loving life.
He was born on June 9, 1915, in Fanshawe. An avid fisherman, there wasn’t a body of water he wouldn’t fish. He was full of love and faith for his fellow man. His belief in our heavenly father was soul deep and an integral part of how he lived his life. Pate was a beloved and accomplished educator for 32 years. He spent most all of his educational career as a teacher and principal at Rail Road Flat Elementary School.

Jimmy Dale Hill

Jimmy Dale Hill, 67, of Wister died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Jimmy was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Oklahoma City to Thurman and Jewel (Killian) Hill. He worked for the street department of the city of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Earhart and brother, Bill Hill. 
Survivors include his son, Mike Hill of Turlock, Calif.; grandson, Davis Hill of Turlock; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Marvel Hill of Wister; longtime companion, Leona Sherry; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

Leflore boys pull one out of the hat in opening game of EOSC Classic; Howe girls win, but Whitesboro girls lose

WILBURTON — The phrase, “miraculous comeback,” is heard quite often in the world of sports. The Leflore Savages basketball team experienced one Monday at the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
Down 44-31 entering the final period against the Battiest Panthers, the Savages outscored them 24-9 in the fourth quarter to snatch a 55-53 win away from Battiest to advance to the championship semifinals of the gold bracket.
