TALIHINA â€” For the fans in attendance at Thursday night's Talihina Golden Tigers football scrimmage against the Valliant Bulldogs at Doc Robinson Stadium, it probably looked like the locals were picking up right where they left off.
â€śI'm not going as far as saying that, but they're really hungry,â€ť Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. â€śThey really looked hungry [in Thursday night's scrimmage].â€ť
The Talihina offense scored six touchdowns and kept the â€™Dogs out of the end zone.
The 2014 season for the Heavener Lady Wolves and Wolves cross country teams will begin Monday afternoon with the Haworth Invitational.

HOWE â€” The Howe Lady Lions got a home win Thursday afternoon by defeating the Leflore Lady Savages 11-5.
The Lady Lions broke a 4-all tie with a two-run second inning for a 6-4 lead after two innings.
After the Lady Savages cut the deficit to 6-5 in the fourth inning, the Lady Lions responded with a five-run fourth inning for an 11-5 lead.
Spiro 5, Whitesboro 1; Spiro 6, Buffalo Valley 1; Whitesboro 14, Buffalo Valley 4: In Whitesboro, Spiro went undefeated in Thursday's three-way, while the host team went 1-1.
The Cameron Yellowjackets tried Friday night to get to the consolation finals of the 2014 Carl Albert State College Invitational at CASC's Ival Goodman Field.
The Yellowjackets and the Smithville Braves battled in Friday afternoon's consolation quarterfinal, with the game tied at 5 after seven innings. The winner played in the consolation semifinals later that night against McCurtain. That winner will play the Oktaha Tigers at 11 a.m. Saturday for the consolation title.
WHITESBORO â€” The Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team got its first win of the 2014 fall season Thursday afternoon as they routed the Panola Bearcats 13-0 in the opening round of the Whitesboro Tournament.
However, the â€™Dogs lost in the championship quarterfinals 12-2 to the Boswell Scorpions.
The Bulldogs faced Braggs in Friday afternoon's consolation semifinals with the winner playing for the consolation championship at noon Saturday. The loser will be eliminated.
The third annual Dr. John Montgomery Scholarship Banquet, hosted by LeFlore County Branch NAACP, is slated for this weekend.
The banquet will start at 6 p.m. Saturday [Aug. 23] at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center.
Tickets are available at the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
Adults are $25 and youths 17 and younger are $15. Corporate tables also are available.
This year's guest speaker is Dr. Paul Beran, chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith..
The second annual Brave the Mud Run is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the LeFlore County Fairgrounds.
â€śLast yearâ€™s mud run reached well beyond our expectations. We raised over $12,000 for the shelter because of the overwhelming response we received,â€ť said Glenda Wise, race director. All profits will go directly to the Leflore County Womenâ€™s Crisis Services.
Poteau Fire responded to a large grass fire, including a hay bailer that was engulfed in flames, on old Oklahoma Highway 112 near Double Branch Church Friday about 2:30 p.m.

Joe Allison Randall, 64, of Bokoshe died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Ruth Ann (Treat) Pickering, 66, of Bokoshe died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Ruth was born July 25, 1948, in McAlester to Allen Newton and Anna Belle (Rice) Southard. She was a retired seamstress, rancher, wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Charley Treat, and siblings, Doyle and Richard Southard and Grace Testa.
