Marshall Wayne Needham, 47, of Pocola died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Marshall was born April 22, 1966, in Fort Smith to William David and Marilyn L. (Graham) Needham. Marshall was in the Air National Guard. He worked at Southern Steel and Wire. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, C.W. and Alice Needham; Andy and Vivian Graham.

Poteau soccer boys handle Sequoyah-Claremore Eagles; Pirates, Lady Pirates have big district road games tonight against Fort Gibson Tigers, Lady Tigers

CLAREMORE — The Poteau Pirates soccer team picked up a district road victory Tuesday night, beating the Sequoyah-Claremore Eagles 5-1.
The Lady Pirates did not officially play a game, but did meet in a scrimmage, with Allison Stone's goal tying the game at 1. The contest did not count toward the Lady Pirates' win-loss record.

Pocola senior signs baseball letter with Carl Albert State College

POCOLA — Earlier this year, Pocola pitcher Connor Mangham signed a letter of intent with Connors State College. He had a teammate do the same thing Wednesday morning.
Pocola senior Tanner Francis signed a letter of intent with Carl Albert State College in a signing ceremony inside the lobby of the high school gym.

Poteau golf girls capture Cherry Springs Invitational

TAHLEQUAH — The Poteau Lady Pirates golf team won the Cherry Springs Invitational on Wednesday at Cherokee Trails Golf Course.
The Lady Pirates dominated the field, winning with a team score of 366, with Coweta a distant second (382).
Two Lady Pirates, Hannah Ward, the two-time defending Class 4A state champion, and Dallas Terry, were among the top 10 medalists. Ward, who signed earlier this year with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, won the individual title with a 73, while Terry was the 10th-place medalist with a 95.

Pirate golfer, team fourth at Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH — Poteau's Connor Wheat as well as the Pirates finished fourth at Tuesday's Tahlequah Invitational at Cherry Springs Golf Course.
Wheat shot a 40-39—79 to be the fourth-place medalist.
As a team, the Pirates had a 332, finishing behind host Tahlequah, Tahlequah's junior varsity and Sallisaw.
Two other Pirates were among the top 10 medalists. Jarrett Lowrimore was ninth (39-43—82), while Cody Shore was 10th (41-41—82). John Scott Sanders shot a 46-43—89, while Tyler Wolf carded a 60-59—119.

CROWDER — A five-run, fourth-inning outburst helped the Heavener Wolves rally for an 11-6 come-from-behind win over the homestanding Crowder Demons on Tuesday afternoon.
Down 4-3 after three innings, Noah Davis' grand-slam home run fueled a five-run rally in the fourth inning to give Heavener an 8-4 lead after four innings.
Leflore 10, Preston 1; Okay 4, Leflore 0: In Preston, in the win over the host Pirates, Cody Crase pitched a complete five-inning two-hitter with two strikeouts.
Leflore jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning.
