Most important football game of season Friday night for Spiro; Bulldogs entertain Checotah Wildcats for Senior Night, shot at third place in District 3A-8

The good news is the Spiro Bulldogs are in the Class 3A playoffs, no matter what they do in Friday's home finale against the Checotah Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at McClain Stadium. However, they want to end the regular season on a high note, and not just to win their home finale or make Senior Night memorable for the Class of 2013.
“You don't want to go into the playoffs with a loss,” said Chris Bunch, Spiro's coach. “It's a very important game for us to win. Checotah is a good team, and I think it's going to be a tough game.”

Panama Razorbacks get shot at No. 1 Vian on Friday night

If ever there seemed to be a David vs. Goliath match-up in high school football, that match-up would appear to be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at George Ollie Stadium when the Panama Razorbacks entertain Class 2A's top-ranked Vian Wolverines in a District 2A-6 contest.

Heavener football team seeks second straight five-win season Friday night against Eufaula

The Heavener Wolves football team cannot make the Class 3A playoffs this year, but the Wolves can get their second five-win season and finish at .500 for the year. They were 5-6 and made the Class 2A playoffs last year.
The Wolves (4-5 overall, 2-4 in District 3A-8) will hit the road for their season finale at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Eufaula Ironheads (1-8, 1-5).

CASC Lady Vikings excited for season opener, homecoming

Editor's note — This is the first of a two-part series previewing the Carl Albert State College basketball teams, whose seasons will begin Thursday night. The Vikings season preview will be in Thursday's edition.
The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings will open their 2012-13 basketball season at 6 p.m. Thursday against St. Gregory's University junior varsity team at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Jeff Tadtman, CASC women's coach, will look for improvement from the Lady Vikings in the season opener.

Poteau hotel robbed Monday night

A clerk at the Days Inn and Suites of Poteau escaped without injury during a robbery Monday night.
According to Poteau Chief of police Stephen Fruen, the two men entered the hotel while the clerk was in a room near the front desk. When she heard a noise, she went to investigate and she discovered one man behind the front counter taking money and another standing in the lobby.
The clerk locked herself in a bathroom and called police.
The two men fled the scene with an undetermined amount of money and were not apprehended.
The robbery still is under investigation.

Area business owner arrested on sex crimes warrant

Area business owner, William Joseph LeRoux Jr., 47, of Hodgen, was arrested Monday night on a sex crimes warrant issued in Arizona.
LeRoux has been charged with 12 counts of sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of public sexual indecency. He is being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center without bail pending transport to Maricopa County, Ariz., to stand trial.
LeRoux opened the web-based business, 701 Corp., on Dewey Avenue in Poteau two years ago after relocating to Oklahoma.

Poteau cross-country girls finish in top 10, Pirates 14th at state

EDMOND — The Poteau High School cross-country teams were able to keep their streaks intact with seasons with their full teams making state.
The Lady Pirates made state for the sixth straight time, and were rewarded with a top 10 finish as they came in ninth with 233 points in Saturday's Class 4A State Meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
Oklahoma City Mount St. Mary won the team state championship with 45 points, followed by Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (70 points), Vinita (105), Madill (143), Newcastle (187), Cache (188), Anadarko (191) and Tulsa Cascia Hall (194).

Poteau softball players help Oklahoma Bedlam Black to two victories Friday night

BROKEN ARROW — Four Poteau Lady Pirates softball players, Shelby Standridge, Gabba Wilson, RaeLynn Caldwell and Sidnee Ward, helped the Oklahoma Bedlam Black softball team to a pair of victories Friday night. Oklahoma Bedlam Black doubled up Tuff E Nuff 4-2 and handled the Tulsa Shootout Gold 9-2.
In the win over Tuff E Nuff, Oklahoma Bedlam Black broke a 1-1 first-inning tie with a single run in the third inning.
After the opposition tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning, Oklahoma Bedlam Black scored twice in the fifth inning to get the win.

Bobby S. Morgan, 68, of Shady Point went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Cameron. He was retired from Whirlpool. Bobby was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son, Robbie; his parents, Russell Morgan and Jewell Phelps.
