Helen Davis, 94, of Heavener died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Van Buren, Ark.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at United Methodist Church in Howe. Burial will be in Howe Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
Lonnie Gene Knight, 81, of Leflore died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Tulsa.
Lonnie was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Leflore to Thomas Lee and Velma (Kitchens) Knight. He was a builder of semi-trailers. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vera Sharp.Â
Behind Ericka Edwardsâ€™ 19 second-half points, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings shocked the 19th-ranked Redlands Community College Lady Cougars 69-62 Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The 17-point outings by Redlands players Jared Griffin and Quienton Paras proved to be the difference for the Cougars in their 73-64 win over the Vikings.
The CASC teams will return to action Monday night with road games against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami. The womenâ€™s game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the menâ€™s contest at 8 p.m.
The Whitesboro High School basketball teams both opened the 2013 Rock Island Conference Shootout with wins, but one of them was a nailbiter.
In a battle of Bulldogs on Thursday in Kinta, Whitesboro handled Clayton 64-39. However, the Lady Bulldogs had to go double overtime to defeat Buffalo Valley 44-38 Thursday in Buffalo Valley.
Both Whitesboro teams made it to the semifinals at their respective sites on Friday. The â€™Dogs played the host Eagles in Kinta, while the Lady Bulldogs faced Red Oak in Buffalo Valley.
TAHLEQUAH â€” The Poteau Pirates wrestling team got a huge dual win Thursday night as the Pirates upset Class 5Aâ€™s eighth-ranked team, the Tahlequah Tigers, by a score of 40-36.
The Pirates (11-4 in dual meets this season) got pins from Devin Anderson (120 pounds), Will Longenbaugh (126), Derek Francis (170), Khy Mote (182), Gabe Sanchez (195) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight). It was Brewtonâ€™s match that decided the meet as Poteau trailed 36-34 going into the battle of heavyweights.
LONE GROVE â€” After losing opening-round games on Thursday, the Talihina High School basketball teams both bounced back with consolation semifinals wins in the Lone Grove Invitational on Friday at the Gary Scott Center.
The Golden Tigers got past the Comanche Indians 65-47 to make it to the consolation finals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Marlow.
The Lady Golden Tigers preceded their male counterparts with a 64-44 rout of the Comanche Lady Indians. Talihina will meet tournament-host Lone Grove at 1 p.m. Saturday in the consolation finals.
McCURTAIN â€” The Bokoshe High School basketball teams split their Green Valley Conference road games Thursday night with McCurtain. The Lady Tigers handled the Lady Bulldogs 44-40, but the â€˜Dogs were too much for the Tigers in a 68-24 win.
