The 2012 softball season was to begin for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in this weekend's Northeast Texas Tournament in Longview, Texas. However, the Lady Vikings, who were 21-33 last season, found out this morning that the event was canceled, and will likely not be rescheduled.
Still, Carl Albert Softball Coach David Holt is anxious for the season to begin.
The Poteau Pirates High School basketball teams' "Pink Out Games" will be tonight at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse against Stilwell. The girls' game will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 8 p.m.
Pink lemonade and pink ribbons will be sold, and all proceeds and donations raised will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
The suspense is over. LeFlore County's Class 4A, 3A and 2A basketball schools found out their basketball district tournament playoff fate Thrusday afternoon from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
The Poteau Pirates and Lady Pirates will begin the 2012 playoffs the same way they did in 2011 â€” at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. The Poteau teams were awarded a Class 4A District Tournament as they will welcome the Hilldale Lady Hornets and Hornets.
Both Class 3A county schools' basketball teams were sent on the road for their district tournaments.
Shooting Stars Gymnastics Center at Poteau Spirit Center named its January Stars of the Month earlier this week.
Grace Hall was named the Tumbler Star of the Month because of her consistency to show up to class and her dedication to try new skills.
Savannah Goolsby. who recently joined the competitive gymnastics team, is the Team Star of the Month because she has determination to learn new skills and has been working very hard in class.
Jalee McKenzie is the Gymastics Class Stars due to her enthusiasm in class and her awesome improvements.

The 2012 sixth annual Junior He-Man Punt, Pass and Kick Competition will take place beginning at high noon Saturday at the â€śJody Ray Sports Complex,â€ť located at 306 Strip Pit Road. There are two divisions, the L'il He-Man Division for ages 6 to 8 and Junior He-Man Division for ages 9 to 12.

Spiro's K.J. Booze, Tyh Hawkins and Jordan Scott signed letters of intent Wednesday morning at the Spiro Gym.
Booze signed with Dartmouth College of the Ivy League in Hanover, N.H. However, official acceptance into the famed collegiate institution does become official for any Ivy League school until April. But football players can still sign their letters of intent in February.
