Thelma Mae Black Whitmore, 77, of Bokoshe died away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Bokoshe.
Thelma was born August 10, 1935 in Milton to Luther and Ina Grace (Painter) Nixon. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church in Panama. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Glen Black and William Whitmore; brothers, Robert, Vernon, Jodie and Jimmie; and sisters, Lelia, Irene, Jeanita and Oteka.
Therral Ray McConnell, 74, of Poteau died Friday, March 8, 2013, in Poteau. Therral was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Paris, Ark., to Lewis and Sarah McConnell. He owned and operated McConnell Furniture Mfg. and McConnell Construction. He was a loving husband, Dad and Papa. He loved life, hunting, and storytelling. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene; brothers, Albert and Orville.Â
Come celebrate the end of Winter and beginning of Spring at the 24th Annual Family Kite Flite Day at the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center. The Kite Flite Day will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Normally there is an entry fee to the site but this will be a Free Day although donations are appreciated. It will be a great day for families and folks of all ages.
Friends of the Buckley Library held their first St. Paddy's Day 5K run/walk Saturday morning.
More than 150 people participated in the event.
All proceeds will go toward the completion of the Patrick Lynch Library scheduled to open in May.
Winners were announced in 15 event categories. Over male finisher was Matt Aguero and Hali Repass took the finish line as top female finishers.
The monthly Jumpstart family literacy program will be held in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center for the next three months, according to Dorene Doyle, director of the LeFlore County Literacy Council.
The family reading and activity event is held at 5:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month. The next Jumpstart will be March 26.
The event includes a story reading for younger children, craft activity and free books for children up to age 11 and their parents or guardians.
Free refreshments also are provided.

STILLWATER, Okla. â€“ About this time every year, Oklahomans watch thousands upon thousands of acres of land burn up in wildfires. However, this fire season has been better than usual due to the low grassy fuel loads caused by drought during last yearâ€™s growing season.
While we have seen some recent moisture across much of the state, how big of an effect does it have on wildfire this time of year?
Well, it's hard to believe that the 2012-13 high school basketball season has come to an end, but it at least ended on a high note.
It was good to see the Talihina Golden Tigers return to state after a season off. Prior to 2012, the Tigers made state four straight seasons â€” winning the gold ball in 2011.
It just seemed that third time wasn't the charm for Talihina. The Golden Tigers upset Oktaha to win the regional title, then six nights later did likewise against Preston to win the area tournament and make state.
WARNER â€” The Panama Lady Razorbacks got their first win of the slow-pitch season Thursday night as they split their games in a three-way with host Warner and Gore.
The Lady â€™Backs blanked Gore 12-0 before losing 12-3 to host Warner.
Keota 15, Cameron 5: In Keota, the Lady Lions scored once in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Yellowjackets scored three runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Lady Lions responded with a four-run third to take an 8-3 lead.
Choctaw Country Club is having a membership drive until April 1.
Anyone signing up to become a member from now until March 30 will be able to use the country club for free, and play a round of golf for free.
Beginning on April 1, those individuals will then be required to pay their dues covering a calendar year. There is a $25 application fee.
