Turkey season nearing; fish are starting to bite

March 7, 2013

Turkey season is a month away out west, and six weeks away here in southeast Oklahoma. I am going to head down to Ardmore to see my cousin, Jason Sampson, for opening weekend and try to kill me a Rio Grande turkey.
I am getting ready to start practicing up with my turkey calls that I got from Jay Neugin a couple of years back. I am hearing some people talk about scouting and seeing some birds strutting already.
When the eastern season opens up, I am going to join Dan Carter and Butch Parks down at my lease near Clayton for a camping trip to chase some birds around the mountains.

Seeing a Thunder-Lakers game always a bittersweet one for me

March 7, 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY — It's always tough watching the Los Angeles Lakers play the Oklahoma City Thunder.
As I've said previously, I grew up a huge Lakers fan ever since the rookie season of Magic Johnson. I stayed with that team all through their glory "Showtime" years, and then even in the ’90s when they struggled before picking up Kobe Bryant and then Shaquille O'Neal for their championship run in the early 2000s.
Then Oklahoma City finally got an National Basketball Association team a few years ago when the Seattle SuperSonics moved to town.
