Fast and the Farias; Heavener senior cross-country runner to end prep career at Class 3A State Meet this morning

HEAVENER — The dream of any senior high school athlete is to get to state, or play for a state championship. Heavener High School senior cross-country runner Jose Farias has that opportunity Saturday morning.
Farias will be the lone Heavener Wolf to run at the Class 3A State Meet, which will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. at Shawnee's Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center.
Farias qualified for state at last weekend's Class 3A Regional Meet in Henryetta. He strongly believed that his time of 18:49 was going to be good enough to earn him an individual berth to this morning's state meet.

Spiro routs Valliant in battle of Bulldogs

SPIRO — In a battle of Bulldogs Thursday night at McClain Stadium, it was LeFlore County's ’Dogs who had more growl.
Spiro routed the Valliant Bulldogs 42-13 in a District 3A-8 contest to run their winning streak to four games.

Talihina brings it home, 56-0 over Haileyville

TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers started early as usual, and disposed of the visiting Haileyville Warriors in the first quarter in a District A-6 contest Thursday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
Statistics in rushing and defense were scattered among first-stringers and subs, eventually piling up to a 56-0 victory over the winless Warriors.

Thackerville too much for Arkoma

ARKOMA — Decimated by injuries and a recent sickness that hit the school this week, the Arkoma Mustangs faced the Thackerville Wildcats Thursday night at Mustang Field in a District C-4 contest. Thackerville pulled away at halftime, mercy ruling the Mustangs 64-18.

Stigler Panthers do damage to playoff hopes for Heavener Wolves

STIGLER — After a strong finish to last week's loss against the Spiro Bulldogs, the Heavener Wolves were hoping some of that momentum would follow them into Haskell County Thursday night in their Distric 3A-8 contest with the Stigler Panthers. Unfortunately for them, it didn't.
The Panthers dominated the Wolves in a 54-7 victory to do major damage to Heavener's playoff hopes.

Crews search for missing Pocola woman

Several law enforcement agencies and volunteers are searching for a missing Pocola woman.
Ruby Poole, 74, was last seen Wednesday night at approximately 11 p.m. She was seen walking near Choctaw Road and North Gray Street near the Choctaw Casino in Pocola, according to Pocola Police Department. She was reported missing Thursday morning.

Bad Dreams Haunted House opens soon

The Panama and Shady Point police departments and the Police Wives Auxiliary Group have announced the opening date for their annual charity haunted house.
Bad Dreams Haunted House opens Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. and will be open every night until the final Halloween tour. The cost to enter, if you dare, is $5 per person. A sneak preview for those seeking early spooks will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
Bad Dreams Haunted House is located in Panama on Midland Valley Road.
All proceed are used to fund the police departments Christmas program for children in need.

Poteau Pirates get home win against Muldrow Bulldogs

All year long, the Poteau Pirates football team wanted to be more physical in its offensive line, and in Thursday night's District 4A-4 contest against the Muldrow Bulldogs at Costner Stadium, the offensive line had its coming out party.

Late score lifts Panama past Hugo to run winning streak to three games

HUGO — All that matters is who is leading when the final horn goes off. Just ask the Panama Razorbacks.
The Hogs scored with 21 seconds to go in the game to rally to down the Hugo Buffaloes 21-20 Thursday night in District 2A-6 action.

Pocola rebounds from last week's loss with rout of Antlers Bearcats

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians football team was on the end of a 40-0 shutout last Friday night against the Hartshorne Miners. They made amends for that Thursday night at John Carter Field.
The Indians had little problems in handling the Antlers Bearcats, winning 43-6 in District 2A-6 action.
