HEAVENER â€” The Spiro Lady Bulldogs handled the Heavener Lady Wolves to win the Class 3A District Tournament on Thursday, posting the sweep by scores of 8-6 and 8-5.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-9) will find out Monday where, when and who they will play in next week's regional tournament, while the losses end the season for the Lady Wolves (12-19).
RED OAK â€” The season came to an end for the Bokoshe Lady Tigers softball team as it suffered two losses in the Class B District Tournament Thursday afternoon. The Lady Tigers lost 8-0 to McCurtain, then fell 12-0 to Red Oak.
KEOTA â€” The good news was the Howe Lady Lions softball team perhaps played their best games of the fall 2012 season Thursday in the Class A District Tournament against the homestanding Keota Lady Lions. However, it still was not good enough to advance onward.
Keota posted wins of 6-0 and 3-2 over Howe to win the district tournament and advance to next week's Class A Regional Tournament. The losses end the season for Howe.
PRESTON â€” The Wister Wildcats baseball team is trying to make it to state for the sixth straight season, dating back to the spring 2010 season. The Wildcats have taken the first step toward that goal.
The â€˜Cats defeated the Preston Pirates 9-1 to win the Class A District Tournament Friday afternon.
The Wildcats totally dominated things on Day 1 as they routed both the host Pirates 16-3 after doing likewise to the Wilson (Henryetta) Tigers 20-0 on Thursday.
The Wildcats (18-7) will find out Monday where, when and who they will play in the Class A Regional Tournament next week.
OKTAHA â€” The Cameron Yellowjackets baseball team saw its fall 2012 season come to an end Friday afternoon as they lost 9-5 to the host Oktaha Tigers in the Class A District Tournament.
The Yellowjackets split their first two games in the tournament on Thursday, blanking Okay 11-0 before losing a heartbreaking, 10-inning game 6-5 to host Oktaha.
STUART â€” The good news was the Leflore Savages baseball team made it to the title game of the Class B District Tournament. The bad news they were stung by the Stuart Hornets 13-3 to see their season end.
The Savages got to the title game by run ruling the Panola Bearcats 12-2 in six innings.
The Savages split their first two games of the district tournament on Thursday, beating Panola 9-4 before losing to host Stuart 10-4.
SMITHVILLE â€” The 2012 fall baseball season came to an end for the Howe Lions Thursday afternoon in the Class A District Tournament. The Lions suffered a 10-0 loss to the host Smithville Braves, then fell 6-2 to the Haworth Lions.
INOLA â€” It was an historic day in Poteau High School cross country as the Pirates won their first-ever meet as they won the Inola Invitational Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates, who scored 43 points, edged out Kansas, who scored 48 points â€” as the lowest score wins cross country meet, with points compiled by adding the numbers of the places finished by individual runners.
Carl Albert State College Assistant Softball Coach Megan Young will give softball lessons at $25 per hour to girls up through age 18.

IvaJo Shykes, 71, of Eufaula died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. She was born on Sept. 25, 1940, in Heavener. IvaJo loved her family, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchild very much. IvaJo was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and Jodie Allison; and her grandson, Christopher Keith Shykes.
