Cameron golfer wins Class 2A Regional Qualifier

TISHOMINGO — Cameron Yellowjacket golfer Kody Whitehead won the Class 2A Regional Qualifier Monday afternoon at Tishomingo Golf Course.
He shot a 76 to shoot four-over par.
Whitehead will represent Cameron at the Class 2A Regional Tournament, which will be next Monday at Arrowhead Resort Golf Course. If he finishes among the top individuals, Whitehead will qualify for the Class 2A State Tournament the following Monday and Tuesday.

Cameron ’Jackets, Leflore boys, Heavener, Howe girls find out their regional-tournament fate; Class 2A, 3A, 4A baseball teams, Poteau girls get first taste of postseason this week

For four local teams of the diamond, they found out their fate for their respective regional tournaments Monday afternoon from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
The Yellowjackets found out they will be a Class A Regional Tournament host with Gore, Okay and Wright City.
The Savages were sent to Red Oak, along with McCurtain and Stuart for a Class B Regional Tournament.
As for the ladies, the Heavener Lady Wolves were sent to McAlester for their Class 5A Regional Tournament, along with Bethel, Henryetta and Valliant.

Senior soccer trio winding down high school careers

This afternoon's homecoming soccer game at 4:30 p.m. at Costner Stadium against Hilldale will be the last time the senior Lady Pirates will hit the field at home.
Today's game also just happens to be the third game in five days at home to end the regular season for the Lady Pirates, who beat Porter Consolidated on Friday then had Senior Night Monday against Westville.
Senior defender/midfielder Jeanelle Cabellero wishes that the home contests were not confined to such a short time span.

Poteau wins battle of Lady Pirates with Porter Consolidated on Friday; Homecoming slated today for Lady Pirates, Pirates

Poteau and Porter Consolidated both share the same plight coming into their soccer game Friday at Costner Stadium. Both share the common mascot, Lady Pirates, but, more importantly, both teams were at the bottom of the District 4A-6 standings, with perhaps this game being the only shot at claiming a district win.
The home standing Lady Pirates of Poteau claimed their second victory of the year, and their first district victory since last year, by the score of 1-0.

Weekend High School Baseball Roundup

FORT GIBSON — The Poteau Pirates ended coming in second at this past weekend's Fort Gibson Tournament as they lost Saturday afternoon's title game 5-3 to the Wagoner Bulldogs at Carr-O'Dell Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Pirates scored three runs on a Kaydon Evans sacrifice fly and two Wagoner errors to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs, ranked 15th in Class 4A, cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning on a passed ball, then a two-run home run by Brad Green and a passed ball produced three runs in the sixth inning.

Spiro boys get road win at FS Southside

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Spiro Bulldogs crossed the border Friday night into Arkansas to face the Fort Smith Southside Rebels. They didn't miss a beat against the Class 7A West school handing the Rebels a 4-3 loss on Senior Night.

Carl Albert softball team sweeps pair from Connors State College

It was a great weekend for the Carl Albert State College softball team. The Lady Vikings swept a home doubleheader Saturday afternoon from Connors State College by scores of 11-3 in a six-inning, run-rule win in the opener, followed by a 2-1, eight-inning victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings will conclude their regular season at 2 p.m. this afternoon in a road twinbill against Rose State College in Midwest City.

Carl Albert baseball team completes series sweep of NOC-Tonkawa

TONKAWA — Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks Thursday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field, the Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team completed the four-game series sweep Saturday afternoon by sweeping the Mavericks by scores of 12-2 and 3-1.
Carl Albert will return to action at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Warner against Connors State College in a single, nine-inning contest.

Ready, Set, SPELL

More than 30 spellers comprising ten teams gathered to compete at the annual Literacy Council of LeFlore County Adult Spelling Bee Thursday night. The annul event is held has fund raiser for the Literacy Council of LeFlore County. This years winners were the Super Sats sponsored by Southern Star, Inc. Each of the winners received a trophy and door prizes were awarded throughout the night.
