OOLOGAH — The farther the Poteau Pirates made it into the Class 4A State Soccer Playoffs, the teams were going to be tougher — and scoring was going to be a lot tougher than in previous games. That was so true in Tuesday night's second-round playoff game.
Oologah scored at the 17-minute mark of the first half and had a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Pirates came out in the second half and scored two early goals —- then played strong defense the rest of the way to win the game 2-1.
HEAVENER — It didn't take one long to notice that there could be a Class 4A state soccer quarterfinal contest involving both LeFlore County teams. It's going to happen Friday night.
The Heavener Wolves kept their perfect record intact as they won their first playoff game of the 2012 Class 4A playoffs as they shut out Riverfield Country Day School from out of Tulsa by a score of 3-0 Tuesday night at Harvey Stadium.

A season ago, Poteau senior hurdler Dakota Clark suffered an ankle injury, which sidelined him for the majority of his junior seasons for both track and soccer.
Now injury free, the Pirate hurdler looks to win state in either or both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles at this weekend's Class 4A State Meet — which will be Friday and Saturday at Ardmore's Noble Stadium.
For four Poteau Lady Pirate tracksters — junior Colleen Peterson, freshmen Jazmine Warren and Sheridan Hoyer and sophomore Deven Bond — they have a chance to end their track seasons in fine fashion this weekend.
Peterson, Warren, Hoyer and Bond are the four legs of the 3,200-meter relay team, which has won every meet but one — coming in second to Vinita's 3,200 relay at the Hilldale Invitational April 13 in Muskogee.
HEAVENER — For the third straight season, Heavener Wolf long jumper Shaun Bradley finds himself at the biggest meet of the year — the Class 3A State Meet, which will be Friday and Saturday at Ardmore's Noble Stadium.
He hopes the old adage about the third time holds true to form.
“Maybe third time will be the charm,” Bradley said. “My sophomore year, I made it to the state finals. Hopefully, this year, I can come back with the gold.”
