Good Times Theatre casting call for Fiddler on the Roof

The Good Times Community Theatre League will be hosting auditions for Fiddler on the Roof June 18, 2012.
Fiddler on the Roof is the story of life in the small village of Anatevka—particularly of the Jewish families living there. At the center of the story is Tevye, the local dairyman, his wife, Golda, and their five daughters who struggle to hold onto their traditions in the face of changing world values and ever-growing anti-Semitism.

Property in Cameron destroyed by fire

A fire in Cameron endangered one occupied home and
destroyed an abandoned residence Wednesday night.
According to residents on Barton Street in Cameron,
the fire was possibly started by kids. They claim the fire
started in an abandoned school bus near the corner of West
Main Street and Barton Street. The fire spread north
through the brush, crossing underneath a cellular tower
then destroying an abandoned home. According to residents
along Barton Street, the electric lines were melted in
the fire and a transformer blew, leaving the area without

Riverdawgs lose to Okmulgee in 10 innings Wednesday night

MORRIS — The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 6-5 loss in 10 innings to Okmulgee Wednesday night.
After Spiro's Slater Dunn hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Cameron's Dale Pearson in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5-5, the host team broke the tie in the 10th inning on an error.

The 15th annual Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. June 25 at Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
Lunch and check-in will begin at noon June 25.
The entry fee is $65 per person or $130 per two-player team. Two mulligans will be available for $10, with a limit of four per team.

Don Howard Lee

Don Howard Lee, 72, of Wister died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Wister.  Don was born Nov. 1, 1939,  in Scurry County, Texas, to Charles V. and Alice (Merritt) Lee. Don was retired from Dowell Schlumberger Oil Company. He was a member of First Step of Faith Church in Poteau since 2005.    Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Harold E. Cox

Harold E. Cox, 75, of Summerfield died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in Summerfield. He was born Aug. 21, 1936, at Summerfield to John Christopher and Ora (White) Cox. He was a retired glazier from the construction industry.

Local middle school student scores big

A Pansy Kidd Middle School student has made a name for himself academically and his hard work paid off with an early admittance to a
