Spiro boys win consolation championship, but girls suffer loss in regional championship

The Spiro Bulldogs brought home some hardware for the second straight weekend. In a battle of Bulldogs, Spiro handled Valliant 61-47 to win the Class 3A Regional Tournament's consolation championship game Saturday afternoon at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Lady Bulldogs tried to do likewise with bringing some hardware home for a second straight weekend, but they fell to the Salina Lady Wildcats 59-36 in Saturday night's regional title game at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.

Howe girls, Wister boys fall in regional title games; Panama, Wister girls, Pocola boys eliminated

ADA — Ada High School's Cougar Activity Center was not very kind to LeFlore County's Class 2A basketball teams playing there Friday and Saturday in the Class 2A Regional Tournament.
The Howe Lady Lions and the Wister Wildcats lost their regional title games Saturday night. The Lady Lions fell 40-29 to Amber-Pocasset, while the ‘Cats lost 71-47 to Haworth.

Talihina girls lose to Oktaha in regional title game, but still make 2A Area Tournament; Season ends for Talihina boys with loss to Crowder

WARNER — The good news is the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers will be in the Class 2A Area Tournament this week at the new Wilburton High School Gym. The bad news is they will have to win three straight games to make next week's Class 2A State Tournament.
The Lady Golden Tigers lost the Class 2A Regional Tourmament title game 43-38 to the Oktaha Lady Tigers Saturday night.

Jury selection begins

Jury selection begun in trail against Aaron Ray Wesley Hinson today in LeFlore County District Court. Opening arguments should begin on Tuesday.
Hinson was charged in 2009 with the murder of an infant child after the child succumbed to injuries received while in Hinson's care.
According to the affidavit, Hinson is accused of causing a skull fracture and bruises to his girlfriend's infant son. Hinson and the infant's mother were both charged with the Child's death.

Whitesboro teen to represent Oklahoma at national youth summit in D.C.

Whitesboro High School student Tiffany Worrell has selected to represent Oklahoma as a delegate to the 2012 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.
Worrell will join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive, week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation.

Poteau girls stave off elimination with Friday afternoon win; Lady Pirates suffer first postseason loss Thursday night to Roland

The good news is the Poteau Lady Pirates have a chance to get a second postseason plaque. They stayed alive in the Class 4A Regional Tournament Friday afternoon with a 62-40 rout of the Broken Bow Lady Savages in Sallisaw.
The Lady Pirates suffered their first loss of the postseason Thursday night in Roland with a 51-47 defeat at the hands of the host Lady Rangers.
The Lady Pirates (7-19) will play the winner of Friday night's Hilldale-Stilwell game at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon in Sallisaw for the consolation championship, and a trip to next week's Class 4A Area Tournament in Muskogee.

Spiro boys stay alive with rout of Antlers Bearcats

The Spiro Bulldogs kept their season alive Friday afternoon with a 65-47 rout of the Antlers Bearcats in the Class 3A Regional Tournament at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The ’Dogs will play the winner of Friday night's Westville-Valliant game at 3 p.m. this afternoon at CASC for the consolation championship, and a trip to next week's Class 3A Area Tournament in Fort Gibson.

HOWE — Two LeFlore County high school basketball teams punched their tickets to tonight's Class 2A Regional Tournament title games at Ada High School's Cougar Activity Center — and assured themselves of a trip to next week's Class 2A Area Tournament at the new Wilburton Gym.
The Howe Lady Lions defeated the Panama Lady Razorbacks 58-25, while the Wister Wildcats got past the Pocola Indians 49-40 Thursday night at the Howe Gym.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.
