Any church interested in playing in the 2012 Poteau Coed Church League this summer needs to call Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939.
Entry Fee is $400 per team. Deadline for entry is June 28. There will be two divisions if enough teams enter. All teams must pay before their team will be entered into the league. The season will begin on July 9.

Cameron angler wins BASSMaster Weekend Series title

In the co-angler division, Cameron's Wade J. Dalton won it all in the latest 2012 Toyota Tundra BASSMaster Weekend Series May 19 on Lake Eufaula. He caught three bass weighing a collective 10.41 pounds, which included the big bass winner which weighed 5.88 pounds. For his win, he pocketed $1,433.75, plus an added $169.17 for his big bass winner.
“I caught the big fish by flipping docks with a homemade jig,” Dalton said. “I also caught some fish on a strike king KVD 1.5 square-billed crankbait around riprap points and banks. I caught six fish, and culled twice.”

JoAnn Thompson, 78, of Anadarko died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at home. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Talihina. Services will take place in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2. Burial will be in Goodsprings Cemetery, Lenox, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Riverdawgs finish fourth at Trophy Case Tournament; ’Dawgs return to action today on road against Kerwins

BARTLESVILLE — The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team finished fourth at last weekend's Trophy Case Tournament. The Riverdawgs lost for the second time in the tournament to Three Rivers, falling 8-3 on Monday.
The ’Dawgs (2-2) took a 3-1 lead with a three-run fourth inning on an RBI double by Panama's Isaac Burris, an RBI triple by Wister's Caleb Hill and a passed ball, but that proved to be their only inning with runs.

Poteau golfer third at Hudiburg Classic

MIDWEST CITY — After winning a four-hole playoff, Poteau's Hannah Ward was third at last weekend's 2012 Hudiburg Auto Group Oklahoma's Best High School Classic, which took place Sunday and Monday at John Conrad Golf Course. Ward, who won the Class 4A State Tournament on May 3 at Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner South Golf Course, shot a 75-71—146, two shots behind champion Anna Mikish of Choctaw (71-73—144). Tulsa Union's Nadia Majidi was runner-up (75-70—145).

U.S. Court of Appeals upholds conviction of LeFlore County murderer James DeRosa

A convicted murderer who has appealed his double death sentence has again been denied a ruling in his favor.
James L. DeRosa, 35, was sentenced to death in the murders of Curtis and Gloria Plummer. 
The Plummers were found dead inside their home in October 2000, stabbed multiple times and with their throats cuts.
An investigation into the murders hastened along after accomplice Scotty White, 29, informed a school counselor he knew who murdered the Plummers.
White named Derosa and John Eric Castleberry, 39.

Several duos win titles at Wayne Husak/Memorial Day Tournament last weekend

There were several local golfing duos who came away with titles at the Wayne Husak/Memorial Day Golf Tournament, which took place Saturday and Sunday at Choctaw Country Club.
Jason May and Sean Coyle took first place in the championship flight with a 130, finishing one shot ahead of Ronnie and Jonathan Burgess (131). Russell Vanhook and Robert McCuller were third (136), followed by Jeff Tadtman and Jim Janssen (139), Jerry Holton and Kelly Holton (140) and Max and Terry Manlove (145).

Wister baseball player MVP of Kiamichi All-Star Classic

WILBURTON — Wister's Clint Crane was named the Most Valuable Player of the 40th Kiamichi All-Star Classic Saturday afternoon.
Crane and the South defeated the North 12-5 at the Eastern Oklahoma State College baseball field. Crane's county victorious teammates were Talihina's Austin Lawson and Wister's Caleb Hill.
Representing the county in the North team were Poteau's Wilson Klutts and Blake Roley. How the local individuals did in the game was unavailable at press time.

Wister baseball team's fundraiser, and time for some free fishing days

First order of business is to let everyone know that the Wister Wildcats baseball team is selling tickets for an Oklahoma City RedHawks game, which will be June 23 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, for just $10 dollars each. That low price also includes a voucher for a free Redhawks hat. You can’t beat a deal like that!

Bob Everet Roberts, 67, of Poteau died Monday, May 28, 2012, in Poteau. Bob was born in Cameron on Feb. 5, 1945, to Willie and Madge Vera (Godwin) Roberts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bob was a carpenter sub-contractor.
