The 2012 Spiro Elementary Basketball Summer Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Thursday at the Spiro Gym. The camp is open to those who will be entering grades kindergarten through two. The cost $30 per camper. For additional information, call (918) 605-1840.

Early Friday morning, May 25, 2012, Billy Ray Shadwick left our Earth to be in a better place; 21 days after May 4, when he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.Â
Billy was 45. He was born Oct. 12, 1966, in Idabel to Bill and Shirley Shadwick. He graduated from Heavener High School in 1984 and attended CASC.
Billy married Stephanie on Nov. 27, 1998, giving them almost 15 incredible years together with the kids â€” Tasha and Garret Janway.
Billyâ€™s prior employment was a Poker Room Manager at Choctaw Casino with his current employment being a Manager at Ronâ€™s Discount Lumber.
The Arvest Bank team of Cody Pugh, David Wiggins, Dany Williams, Glenn Smylie won Thursday's LeFlore County Youth Services Golf Tournament at Choctaw Country Club.
The second-place team was from Poteau Fire Department, comprised of Todd Peters, Shad Stover, Terry Manlove, Jake Thompson.
The Central National Bank team of Paul Quirk, Mike Hall, Dustin Hall, Gary Brown was third.
Bonnie Sue Green, 98, of Panama died Friday, May 25, 2012, in Pocola.Â Services are pending with Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Edward Charles Dunback, 69, of Haskell died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Talihina Veterans Center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Fort Gibson National Â Cemetery, Fort Gibson, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Paige Breanne Underwood, 16, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, in Calhoun, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born Oct. 3, 1995, in Tupelo to Jerry Underwood Jr. and Melissa K. Bradley Underwood.
The Poteau Daily News is offering a great opportunity to area churches who want to sent their youth group to experience the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Ark.
The first real good chance for new Poteau Pirates football coach Greg Werner to get a good look at his new players in a game-like situation will happen this afternoon.
The Poteau Red-White Football Scrimmage will begin at 4 p.m. this afternoon at Costner Stadium. Admission is towels.
The scrimmage was originally going to take place at 6 p.m., but it was going to interfere with tonight's Poteau Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet. So, it was moved up two hours to accommodate tonight's festivities.
There will be a T-ball fundraising tournament June 2 in Heavener.
The entry fee for the event is $50 per team. Players on the first- and second-place teams will receive medals, while all players will receive certificates. Each team is guaranteed two games.
