Bokoshe girls lose Class B Regional Tournament title game to DCLA

STROUD — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers suffered their first Class B playoff loss of the season Saturday night as they lost the title game of the Class B Regional Tournament 52-34 to the Deer Creek-Lamont (DCLA) Lady Eagles.
The Lady Tigers still advanced to this week's Class B Area Tournament in Cleveland, Okla., since they are the regional runners-up. Bokoshe will play Burlington at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with wins needed in that game as well as Friday and Saturday afternoon's consolation championship game to make next week's Class B State Tournament.

Panama girls, Pocola boys claim Class 2A District Tournament championships; Lady Indians runners-up, while Hogs' season ends

PANAMA — Two LeFlore County basketball teams won Class 2A District Tournament titles Saturday night at the Panama Gym.
The host Lady Razorbacks defeated archrival Pocola 58-49, while the Pocola Indians got past the Gore Pirates 63-42 to win in Saturday night's title games.
Both Pocola teams had to stave off elimination on Friday night. The Lady Indians defeated the Gore Lady Pirates 69-51, while the Indians got past their archrivals from Panama 69-51.
The Panama girls and the Pocola teams all advanced to this week's Class 2A Regional Tournament, which will begin Thursday at the Howe Gym.

Heavener teams handled in 3A District Tournament

KANSAS, Okla. — The postseason did not begin the way the Heavener High School basketball teams had hoped.
The Lady Wolves and Wolves were handled by the host Kansas teams in Friday night's Class 3A District Tournament. The Lady Comets defeated the Lady Wolves 69-27, while the Comets then beat the Wolves 52-36.

Consolation semifinal losses Friday afternoon end Leflore teams' seasons

STROUD — The seasons came to an end for the Leflore High School teams Friday afternoon at the Class B Regional Tournament as they lost their consolation semifinal games.
The Lady Savages lost 52-36 to the Braggs Lady Wildcats, while the Savages fell 55-45 to the Mason Eagles.
In the girls' contest, the Lady Savages (6-21) only trailed 12-10 after one period, but the Lady ’Cats slowly pulled away from there. Braggs led 32-23 at halftime and 45-27 after three periods.

Task Force Sweeps County

A two day joint task force operation to ensure compliance of sex offenders located in LeFlore County came to a close Friday afternoon after 98 registered sex offenders were visited.
The United States Marshals Service, along with the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department, investigators with the District 16 District Attorney's Office, Poteau Police Department and the Department of Human Services met at the LeFlore County Courthouse Thursday morning to discuss the operation and the goals intended to be achieved.

Major Samuel Jobe -- Serving with honor

Air Force Major Samuel Lucas Jobe is Chief of Air Operations at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and a LeFlore County native. Major Jobe is the son of Poteau City Councilman and retired Poteau High School football coach Earl Job and retired Pansy Kidd Middle School teacher Sara Jobe. Jobe entered the Air Force after graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1997. He has held positions at the squadron, group, and wing level.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Poteau senior girls ready for second straight district title

The Poteau Lady Pirate senior basketball players were unable to come away winners on Senior Night against Muldrow on Feb. 7 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, thanks to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, they can still win their last game on their home court. The Lady Pirates will entertain the Hilldale Lady Hornets at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse for the Class 4A District Tournament. The Pirates and Hornets will follow at 8 p.m.
If the Lady Pirates win tonight, it would make them back-to-back district champions — which would please them all.

CASC baseball team sweeps Bacone JV

The Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team ran its record to 4-0 with a doubleheader sweep of the Bacone College junior varsity Friday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field by scores of 15-0 in five innings and 4-1.
The Vikings will have back-to-back days of doubleheaders with Coffeyville, Kan. The two teams will play a twinbill at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Coffeyville, while the two teams will make-up Tuesday's postponed doubleheader at Ival Goodman Field at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
