Red Oak basketball player invited to play ‘down under’; Davis is accepting sponsorships to help her

Last month, Red Oak basketball player Bailee Davis got a chance to play in the Class B State Tournament, but this summer she’ll get a chance to hoop it up “Down Under.”
Davis was one of a selected few from the United States to be invited to play in the Down Under Sports Basketball Tournament, which will take place July 13-24 in Australia.

Oklahoma House approves teacher sexual misconduct measure

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Local school districts would be encouraged to report accusations of sexual misconduct by teachers to state education officials under legislation approved by the Oklahoma House on Thursday.

Proponents said it's needed to prevent "teacher hopping" by sexual predators who move from one school district to the next to prey upon children. But opponents said such cases are usually handled by the courts and the bill could unfairly tarnish the reputation of a teacher who is falsely accused.

Poteau Police are investigating the crash.

Wister boys gets top seed in LCT, which begins Monday at Howe, Spiro

The Wister Wildcats will be the top seed of the 2015 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament, which will begin Monday at two sites, Howe’s Lions Field and Spiro. Howe is this year’s host school.
The Wildcats beat the Poteau Pirates on Tuesday afternoon in a contest that likely decided this season’s top-seeded team in the LCT.
The Pirates got the No. 2 seed, with Spiro third and Panama fourth. The top four seeds will get byes into the championship quarterfinals.

Feds sue Oklahoma university, allege gender discrimination

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant was denied a promotion because she was transgender and then fired after she complained about the discrimination, the U.S. Department of Justice alleges in a federal lawsuit filed Monday.

Rachel Tudor, an assistant professor of English at the university, didn't receive a promotion despite a recommendation from her department chair and other tenured faculty from her department, according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Oklahoma City.
