Alumni football is coming to Poteau. Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games.
Gridiron Alumni travels the nation pitting old football rivals against each other one more time. Players are needed to sign up, and the first 40 players on each team get to play.
The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home-field advantage.
Last year, hundreds of players and thousands of fans swarmed stadiums to watch their home town heroes strap it on one more time.
This year, Gridiron Alumni would like to bring alumni football to the whole state of Oklahoma.

Steelman, Wann win 2012 He-Man Tournament last weekend

The 2012 He-Man Women Haters Club Poteau Chapter had its second annual He-Man Polar Bear Bass Tournament Saturday at Grasshopper Landing on Broken Bow Lake. There were 12 boats in the tournament field, with the temperatures in the 60s — it was just a perfect day.
Gary “The Jig Master” Steelman and Judd “Van Damm” Wann took home first place with a haul of 13.15 pounds and pocketing $1,000.
Haskell “Hack Attack” Higgins and “The Boy Wonder” A.J. Higgins came in second (11.64 pounds), while Jason “Glitter” Wickware and “The” Chad Warner came in third (11.23).

CASC dedicates new building

CASC held a dedication ceremony today for the grand opening of the Deanna J. Reed Science and Math Center. The seven million dollar facility will begin hosting classes next week.

Mildred D. Kelly

January 12, 2012

Mildred D. Kelly, 89, of Spiro died Wednesday, Jan. 11. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Mallory-Martin Chapel of Spiro under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Otis Green

January 12, 2012

Otis Green, 70, of Fort Coffee died Monday, Jan. 7, 2012.  He was born May 3, 1941, at Lenapah to William and Adeline (Shoat) Green.  He was a retired mechanic for John Deere. He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Clayton.
Otis is survived by two brothers. Chester Green of Independence, Kan., and Earl Green of Fort Coffee; three sisters, Mary Scott of Wichita, Kan., Devola Shepard of Wichita, Kan., and Doris Clayton of Kansas City, Mo. 
Pallbearers will be Jesse Hutchinson, James Jones Jr, Ricky Henson, Herbert Flynn Jr. and Albert Tabut.

Marianne Head

Marianne Head, 42, of Poteau died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, in a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital. Marianne was born Dec. 24, 1969, in Talihina. She was a certified nurse's aide. She married Kevin Ray Head on Jan. 1, 1997, in Armstrong. Marianne was a member of the Full Gospel Church of Atoka and the Shepherd's Heart Pentecostal Church of God of Poteau.

Poteau teams split home games with Sallisaw Tuesday night

The Poteau High School basketball teams split their home doubleheader with Sallisaw Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Pirates used their defense to polish off the Black Diamonds by a score of 61-43, but the Lady Pirates had problems with the Lady Black Diamonds' pressure defense and struggled over the final 15 minutes of the game in losing 65-39.

PANAMA — A strong second-half performance enabled the Panama Razorbacks to rally from a one-point halftime deficit to down the Arkoma Mustangs 47-38 Tuesday night at the Panama Gym.
Talihina 51, Pocola 49, OT: In Talihina, the Indians outscored the Golden Tigers 12-7 in the final period to knot the game at 42-all at the end of regulation, Talihina outscored Pocola 9-7 in the extra period.
Heavener 55, Wilburton 51: In Heavener, trailing 21-20 at halftime, the Wolves (5-5) outscored the Diggers 35-30 in the second half to get the win.
