Poteau man takes plea in child porn case

A man charged with aggravated possession of child pornography has left
his fate in the hands of the courts after entering a blind plea of no contest. Marty Hester, 52, of Hodgen, has been incarcerated since his arrest in October after law enforcement received a report he attempted to sexually assault two children at his business, The Computer Helper, located on South Witte in Poteau. Eddie passed away in 2007, leaving the operations and management of the store to his wife Mary, daughter Rhonda, son in law Bill, and granddaughter Jenny. Poteau Pirates to have three-day football team camp beginning this morning

New Poteau High School Football Coach Greg Werner does not want to wait until Aug. 7 when football practice will begin. So, he will get three extra days to get a look at his new players.
The Pirates will have a three-day team camp beginning this morning and ending on Friday morning. The sessions will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. daily.

Heavener Thunder rout Sallisaw Titans at OK Kids Coach-Pitch State, but Wister, Poteau Pirates rained out

WEATHERFORD — The Heavener Thunder OK Kids Coach-Pitch baseball team opened the 2012 State Tournament in fine fashion Tuesday afternoon at Rader Park as they routed the Sallisaw Titans 17-4.
The Thunder will meet Tuttle at 7:45 p.m. tonight in the winner's-bracket semifinals.
However, two other local teams got beat by rain as the Wister Wildcats OK Preps team at Chandler and the Poteau Pirates OK Kids Midget team at Elk City were both rained out on opening day of state on Tuesday.

Lindall Lee Castor

Lindall Lee Castor, 77, of Poteau died Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Poteau. Lindall was born May 17, 1935 in Weatherby, Mo., to Lee Kenneth and Julia Bell (Lincoln) Castor. He was retired from the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department where he proudly served for 30 years. Lindall was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He and his wife have been residents of Poteau for three years. Lindall had fought lung cancer for a year, and had made progress, but the cancer spread to his brain. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ruby Tamplin, 88, of Poteau died Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Poteau.
Ruby was born April 14, 1924, in Bluffton, Ark., to Ben and Nica (Evans) Markham. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Port Tamplin; stepson, Millard Tamplin; grandson, Edwin Boyce Liles; and granddaughter, Brandy Gail LeForce.
