Shirley Ann Gordon, 57, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, June 14, 2012. Services were held Monday at Mallory Chapel under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Beverly Ann â€śMomoâ€ť Peters, 77, of Poteau died Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Poteau.Â Beverly was born in Poteau on Aug. 25, 1934, to Amos and Pearl (Bridges) Rowley.Â She was a member of First Baptist Church in Poteau. She was owner of Randco Tool and Mold.Â Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob â€śOdieâ€ť Peters; son, Randy Peters; and brother, Donald Amos Rowley.
Matt Johnson, Carl Albert State College Viking second baseman, has been named to the second team NJCAA All-American Team.
CASC Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Bowen said Johnson helped lead the Vikings to their highest season win total since 2001, with a final record of 37-21.
Johnson led the Vikings' offense in batting average at .417, scored 48 runs, walked 30 times, and had 70 hits â€” with 17 of those doubles and 13 home runs. He finished the season with 51 runs batted in.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€” The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team suffered a road loss to the Oklahoma City Bulls by a score of 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Dolese Park.
Things started off good for the Riverdawgs as an RBI single by Cameron's Dale Pearson scored Spiro's Joe T. Ross to make it 1-0 in favor of the locals in the opening inning. But that would prove to be their only run.
The Bulls tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning, then had a stretch of four straight innings of scoring runs beginning with the fifth inning.
The 15th annual Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. June 25 at Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
Lunch and check-in will begin at noon June 25.
The entry fee is $65 per person or $130 per two-player team. Two mulligans will be available for $10, with a limit of four per team.

There will be an age 12-and-younger girls softball tournament next Saturday at Cameron.
The entry fee is $100 per team. First- through third-place teams will receive medals.
When Poteau High School Baseball Coach Ronnie Sockey announced his resignation last month to become the new softball coach at Greenwood (Ark.) High School, it seemed only a logical move by Poteau Public Schools to promote Assistant Coach Andy Perdue to replace him. At Monday night's school board meeting, that's exactly what happened.
Perdue said there's not going to be a lot of changes made, since he knows what his players can do.
