The Poteau High School basketball teams split their home doubleheader with Sallisaw Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Pirates used their defense to polish off the Black Diamonds by a score of 61-43, but the Lady Pirates had problems with the Lady Black Diamonds' pressure defense and struggled over the final 15 minutes of the game in losing 65-39.
PANAMA â€” A strong second-half performance enabled the Panama Razorbacks to rally from a one-point halftime deficit to down the Arkoma Mustangs 47-38 Tuesday night at the Panama Gym.
Talihina 51, Pocola 49, OT: In Talihina, the Indians outscored the Golden Tigers 12-7 in the final period to knot the game at 42-all at the end of regulation, Talihina outscored Pocola 9-7 in the extra period.
Heavener 55, Wilburton 51: In Heavener, trailing 21-20 at halftime, the Wolves (5-5) outscored the Diggers 35-30 in the second half to get the win.
TALIHINA â€” The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers bounced back from Saturday night's title game loss in the Longhorn Invitational Tournament in Lone Grove by defeating the Pocola Lady Indians 49-35 Tuesday night at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
Panama 49, Arkoma 34: In Panama, the Lady Razorbacks used a strong second half to break a first-half deadlock.
With the game tied at 20-all at halftime, the Lady â€™Backs outscored the Lady Mustangs 29-14 in the second half to win going away on a night the Panama softball players got awarded their state rings for winning last fall's Class 2A State Tournament title.
STILWELL â€” The Poteau Pirates wrestling team posted a 37-29 road dual win over the Stilwell Indians Tuesday night.
The Pirates (11-5) won seven matches on the night, of which four were by pins by Devin Anderson (120 pounds), Tyler Tustin (132), Derek Francis (170) and Gabe Sanchez (195).
Will Longenbaugh got a decision win at 126 pounds, Khy Mote got a major decision at 160 and Tanner Sanders won by forfeit at 145.
It was the second time the Pirates beat the Indians. Poteau defeated Stilwell 54-15 during the Jay Border Wars last month. This time around, it was not quite the same.
Tuesday night, I headed out to the Kiamichi Technology Center for the public comment meeting concerning proposed changes in Wildlife Department regulations. The two main changes that I am interested in deal with baiting on wildlife management areas and the expanding of bear season.
