Arkoma returns to District C-4 play, entertains Bluejacket

September 23, 2011

Yes, the Arkoma Mustangs are undefeated at 3-0, and ranked seventh in the Class C Poll. Yes, they won 26-18 over Southwest Christian Academy last week in Norman. But they may not have played their best football game in that win.
Thus, last week's game may have been a wake-up call of sorts for the Mustangs.
“I really think it was frustation at the way they played,” Arkoma Coach Mark Weatherton said. “They were disappointed with their effort and their execution on offense and defense.”

The Tigers (0-3) are trying to get Tyler Massey his first win as their new coach.

Heavener begins District 2A-6 play with Hartshorne for Homecoming tonight

September 23, 2011

The Heavener Wolves are 1-2 after three games, losing their last game 50-0 last Friday night on the road against Paris, Ark.
“They were way too much for us,” Heavener Coach John Thompson said. “It was a non-district game. You want to win every game, but it's not something that counts (toward district standings). They were a very good ball club. They're ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in Arkansas. They were very good. Our kids knew that. The good thing was we came out of the game healthy.”

Panama hopes for Happy Homecoming in District 2A-6 opener against Wilburton

September 23, 2011

The Panama Razorbacks will hope to end a 13-game losing streak, and in the process make it a Happy Homecoming for everybody, when they entertain the Wilburton Diggers in the District 2A-6 opener at 7:30 p.m. tonight at George Ollie Stadium.
“We're excited,” first-year Panama Coach Brandon Ellis said. “The kids are excited. Being homecoming week, it's been a short week, anyway. I hope we overlook homecoming as a distraction, and start getting ready for Wilburton.”

Pocola, Vian to meet in early District 2A-6 showdown tonight

September 23, 2011

The Pocola Indians are on a six-game winning streak, dating back to Week 8 of last season. They won last week 15-14 in come-from-behind fashion to down the Quinton Savages. It was a game Pocola Coach Rick Lang described as a “statement win.”
“These kids made the plays to win the game when they needed to,” Lang said. “We had injuries, adversity and everything thrown at us for four quarters. We won the game in the fourth quarter, and our kids made the plays. Our kids wanted it. It was a statement win. We're 3-0, and I think our kids wanted to be 3-0 going into the Vian game.”

Talihina gets one more non-district game, visits Antlers tonight

September 23, 2011

With the quirk among schedules for District 2A-6, each team is guaranteed four non-district games.
The luck for the Talihina Golden Tigers is they get to get another non-district game under their belts before entering district play. They will play that last non-District 2A-6 contest at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Antlers.

Poteau will be in its District 4A-4 opener with Hilldale at Costner Stadium, while Spiro will get District 3A-8 play started with a road game at Idabel.
