Margie Minks, 77, of Wister died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home, Heavener.

Ora Lee Spangler, 88, of Poteau died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, in Pocola.

Ora Lee was born May 17, 1926, in Shady Point to Grady and Gertrude (Holstead) Brown. Ora was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; son, L.G. Spangler; and grandson, Keith Spangler.

Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, at Donaldson Funeral Home in Massena, N.Y. (Information provided by Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.)

Hellen Isaac, 69, of Spiro died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel, Poteau, with Bro. Tommy Treat officiating.

Spiro basketball teams seek return trips to Class 3A State Tournament; Lady Bulldogs, ’Dogs open season in Wilburton Tournament

The Spiro High School basketball teams finished last season at the Class 3A State Tournament, only to have quick exits — as the Lady Bulldogs lost to Washington in the quarterfinals, while on the same night the ’Dogs fell to Verdigris.
Both Spiro teams, who begin their seasons Thursday at the Wilburton Tournament, will try to get back there once more.
The Lady Bulldogs, who were 21-7 last season, will meet the Hartshorne Lady Miners at 7 p.m. Thursday in the opening round.
The ’Dogs, who were 24-3 last season, will meet Stigler at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Howe, Wister, Arkoma, Panama girls victors in Green Valley Conference Tournament openers

Four LeFlore County girls teams posted opening-round victories in the third annual Green Valley Conference Tournament on Monday at the Cameron Gym.
The top seed, the Howe Lady Lions, handled the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs 68-22 in the final game of the day.
The Lady Lions will meet the Wister Wildcats, a 52-40 winner over the Bokoshe Lady Tigers, in one championship semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Bokoshe and McCurtain will play in the first of two consolation semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday.
