The Wolf Ridge Junior Golf Clinic will take place the next two Wednesday afternoons at Wolf Ridge Country Club.
The clinic is open to youth ages 5 and older. The clinic for ages 5 to 17 will be from 4 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday for the next four weeks. Cost is $10 per golfer per session.
The clinic for ages 18 and older will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday for four weeks. Cost is $20 per golfer per session.

Poteau golfer ties for second at Stacy Lewis Qualifier

ROGERS, Ark. — Poteau golfer Cody Shore tied for second in this past weekend’s KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior Open American Junior Golf Association Qualifier at Lost Springs Golf and Athletic Club.
Shore, who won the Class 4A State Tournament last month, shot a 36-36—72. He qualified for the Stacy Lewis Open, which will begin today.
Fisher Vollendorf of Fayetteville, Ark., won the tournament, shooting a 34-34—68.

Joe Anthony Bunch, 52, of Pocola died Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Laird Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.

Cristabel (Teeter) Dial Barlow, 102, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Saturday, June 21, 2014. Services were held Monday at Heavener Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home.

Irene Frances Tedder

Irene Frances Tedder, 92, of Panama died Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Cameron. Irene was born Dec. 9, 1921, near Acorn in Polk County, Ark., to Early B. and Leona (Foil) Churchill. She was a homemaker. Irene was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Panama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow on June 19, 1998; her parents, Early B. and Willie (Cline) Churchill; one brother and three sisters.

James Darwin Christy

James Darwin Christy, 68, of Wister died Friday, June 20, 2014, in Wister. He was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, David G. Christy and Letamae Christy. 
Jim served 35 years in the military, serving his country in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. As a civilian he worked 25 years at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith as a registered nurse. In retirement, Jim helped start a dog and cat rescue in Poteau. He loved his dog and cat children and they loved him. His greatest love was riding and spending time with his horses.   

Wister man faces string of drug-related charges

Bail was denied Monday for a Wister man accused of committing a string of drug-related crimes Saturday.
Gary E. Henderson, 36, was jailed in LeFlore County for attempting to elude an officer, two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, two counts of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of body armor, driving under the influence as well as more alleged criminal acts.

Candidates, voters prepare for upcoming election

Early voting in Oklahoma’s statewide primary election closed Saturday [June 21] and candidates are ramping up their campaigns in preparation of tomorrow's [June 24] day at the polls.
Polling places throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
LeFlore County Democrats will vote in at least four races — county assessor, state superintendent of public instruction, U.S. senator (to fill Tom Coburn’s unexpired term), and District 2 U.S. representative. In parts of the county, Democrats also will vote for District 3 county commissioner and District 1 state representative.
