2014 LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament Bracket — MONDAY's GAMES CANCELED DUE TO WET FIELDS

The first day of the LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Tournament has been canceled due to wet fields at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Monday's games will take place on Tuesday, same times. The rest of the tournament's schedule has not yet been rescheduled.

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs came to town and handled the Poteau Lady Pirates 14-2 Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and six in the second inning for a 10-0 lead. A two-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.
Pocola 6, McCurtain 5: In Pocola, the Lady Indians used a four-run fifth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit to get the come-from-behind win.
Howe 14, Keota 11: In Keota, in a battle of Lady Lions, Howe broke a 9-all tie with a two-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth inning to take a 14-9 lead.

Poteau golfer wins Hilldale Invitational; Lady Pirates second by a shot to Eufaula

MUSKOGEE — Poteau golfer Hannah Ward, the two-time Class 4A defending state champion and soon-to-be Arkansas-Little Rock Lady Trojan golfer, won the Hilldale Invitational on Thursday at Cobblestone Golf Course. Ward shot a 75.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were runners-up to Eufaula by a shot. The Lady Ironheads had a 353, with the Lady Pirates coming in at 354. The Lady Pirates did beat host Hilldale (356) and Muskogee (358).

Poteau boys beat Spiro to make county finals

The Poteau Pirates are a win away from successfully defending their LeFlore County Tournament title.
The Pirates got past the Spiro Bulldogs 4-1 Thursday at Town Creek Park.
The Pirates played for the title Friday night in Cameron against the winner of Friday's loser's-bracket final between Spiro and Pocola. Friday's games were to have been at host Heavener, but the Wolves' field was too wet.
If the Pirates lost, there will be a winner-take-all title game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cameron.

WISTER — Due to wet fields at Heavener, the 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament's consolation games on Thursday were played here. Of the four teams who were here, the Pocola Indians staved off elimination to make it to Friday night's loser's-bracket contest at Cameron.
The Indians got past the Wister Wildcats for the second time in the tournament, posting a 4-1 victory, after holding off their archrivals, the Panama Razorbacks, 6-5.
The ’Cats eliminated tournament-host Heavener 8-0 in six innings in the first game of the day.

Dorthy Faye Moore

April 4, 2014

Dorthy Faye Moore, 85, of Panama died Thursday, April 3, in Fort Smith, Ark. Dorthy was born April 10, 1928, in Denning, Ark., to Clarence E. and Clara Bell (Mayfield) Russell. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and lifetime member of the VFW. Dorthy lived the motto, “We are people helping people." She volunteered at the Panama Senior Center for many years where she was instrumental in acquiring their first van. Dorthy also was the inspector for the Panama Election Board for many years.

Elizabeth “Libby” Lafferty

Elizabeth “Libby” Lafferty, 60, of Panama was born Aug.10th, 1953, in Little Rock, Arkansas and died March 31, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She is survived by three sons, Shawn Lafferty and wife Dawnna Vincent of Panama, Jeff Lafferty of Panama, Charles H. Lafferty, Jr. of Oklahoma City; her father, Sunny Knuckles of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Rachel Williamson of Lone Oak, Ark., Roseanne Cook of Mississippi; brother, Sammy Cook of Little Rock; two grandsons, Michael Cody Lafferty and Collin Dean Lafferty; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dr. Robert “Bob” Fields

Dr. Robert “Bob” Fields, 60, of Wister died April 2, 2014, in Poteau. He was born April 29, 1953, in McAlester, to James William and Elsie Mae (Mankin) Fields. He was a proud Red Oak Eagle, a graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and owner of Okie Blue Sky Cattle Co. and SouthEast Animal Health and Hardware. His most fulfilling accomplishment was being "Papa" to his six grandchildren. 
Bob is preceded in death by his father, James Fields, and a son, Brad Fields.
