Ada Mae Turner Marshall, 92, of Poteau died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, in Poteau.

Ada was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Wister to Willis and Tennie (Glenn) Turner. She was of the Nazarene faith. Ada was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a really good cook and she never met a stranger. Ada was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Thomasine Nelson; grandson, Timothy Nelson; son-in-law, Dean Grey; brothers, Leeodas Turner, Harold Turner, Glen Turner; sisters, Mary Ruth Love, Billie June Crawley.

Penny Renee Lynch

Penny Renee Lynch, 35, of Howe, passed away Dec. 19, 2014, in Poteau.

She was born July 20, 1979, in Poteau to Kenneth Lynch and Tammy (Sanders) Morrison. She was a receptionist at Rubin White Clinic.

She is preceded in death by her biological father, Kenneth Lynch, and the father who raised her, Tommy Morrison.

Jack Edward Scott Jr.

Jack Edward Scott Jr., 45, of Poteau died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, in Poteau. Jack was born Dec. 15, 1969, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Jack Edward Sr. and Phyllis June (Manley) Scott.

He was a control room operator at the AES plant where he worked for over 20 years. Jack was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Pete and Alice Scott.

Beverly Gail Golden

Beverly Gail Golden, 58, of Fort Smith died Thursday Dec. 18, 2014, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

She was born in Santa Monica, Calif., Aug. 14, 1956, to Bill and Judy Shaw Jackson. She was of the Christian faith and had a close relationship with the Lord. Beverly loved to travel with her travel buddy MacKenzie. She was a lover of flowers and enjoyed many days in her patio garden. She loved crafts, knitting, journaling and being a grandmother.

Poteau teams split Thursday home games with Broken Bow

The Poteau High School basketball teams split their final home games of the pre-Christmas break portion of their season Thursday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Pirates made the Broken Bow Savages walk the plank in posting a 74-42 rout, but the Lady Pirates lost 66-40 to the Lady Savages.

LEFLORE — The Leflore Lady Savages ended their pre-Christmas break with a dramatic home win Thursday night on Nadine Carpenter Court as they nipped the Bokoshe Lady Tigers 55-53.
The Lady Savages outscored the Lady Tigers in the final period by two points, 20-18, to break a 35-all tie after three quarters.
Howe 66, Smithville 26: In Howe, the Lady Lions remained undefeated and celebrated homecoming to boot. Leading 15-13 after a period, they outscored the Lady Braves 26-3 in the second quarter to take a 41-16 at halftime.

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages basketball team ended their pre-Christmas break part of their season by hitting the century mark in a 105-43 victory over the Bokoshe Tigers on Thursday night on Nadine Carpenter Court.
The Savages jumped out to a 30-6 lead after a period and never looked back.
Howe 62, Smithville 32: In Howe, the Lions made it a happy homecoming, clawing the Braves 18-9 in the opening period en route to a 29-11 halftime advantage.

Dorothy Lenore Monks Aldridge Pickering

Dorothy Lenore Monks Aldridge Pickering, 85, formerly of Bokoshe died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia surrounded by family.

Dorothy was born on June 18, 1929 in Calhoun to Roy and Gracie (Baxter) Monks. Dorothy loved gardening, canning, cooking and was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and baker. She loved to be with family, visit with friends and never knew a stranger. Anyone who knew her knew she enjoyed a special relationship with Jesus Christ. She read scripture daily.
