A three-run fourth inning propeled the Poteau Pirates to a 3-2 win over the Heavener Wolves on Thursday afternoon at Town Creek Park.
Trailing 2-0, the Pirates took advantage of two Heavener errors and a two-run single by Brynn Hammon to put Poteau ahead 3-2 after four innings.
The Wolves broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single by Noah Davis and a sacrifice fly by Hunter Tiffee to put them ahead 2-0.
Howe 14, Arkoma 4: In Arkoma, the Lions won their second straight game this week behind the pitching of Chase Blake, who was the winning pitcher in both games this week.

PANAMA — The Poteau Lady Pirates got a much needed win Thursday afternoon, beating the host Panama Lady Razorbacks 8-1.
Trailing 1-0 after an inning, the Lady Pirates tied the game at 1 in the second inning, then scored three runs in the third inning and four runs in the seventh.
Wister 10, Arkoma 3: In Wister, the Lady Wildcats broke a scoreless tie with a five-run third inning and a single run in the fifth to make it 6-0.
Cameron 7, Whitesboro 4: In Cameron, the Lady Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie with a five-run fifth inning and a two-run sixth.

Porter soccer girls blank Poteau to dash playoff hopes

The Lady Pirates advanced into the opening round of the Class 4A soccer playoffs, but the color of the winning team's jerseys were blue not red.
The Porter Consolidated Lady Pirates ended the Poteau Lady Pirates' season as they won the game 2-0 Thursday night at Costner Stadium.

Heavener track athletes compete at Tuesday's Warner Invitational

WARNER — The Heavener High School track athletes competed at the Warner Invitational on Tuesday.
The Lady Wolves, who were fourth overall, had two athletes win titles.
The Heavener teams will wrap up the regular season in Monday's Broken Bow Invitational, along with Poteau's teams. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Nance goes solo to win Tenkiller tournament

The LeFlore County Bass Club had its fifth tournament of the 2014 circuit Saturday at Chicken Creek on Lake Tenkiller. There were 27 boats with anglers who caught 96 fish that weighed a collective 275.14 pounds. Each fish averaged weighing 2.87 pounds, and 15 limits were caught.
“A-Rig” Andy Nance flew solo and ended up winning the tournament as he hauled in 19.7 pounds to earn $625.
Josh Walls, who had the big bass weighing six pounds even, and Eric Fairless were second with 18.84 pounds to earn $375. Walls earned an additional $250 for his big bass winner.

Poteau basketball player signs with SE Oklahoma; Standridge also named to OGBCA All-State Team, in line for OCA All-State Girls Basketball Team

Poteau High School recently has had softball players, track/cross country athletes and a golfer sign college letters of intent. Now a Lady Pirate basketball player has joined the ranks.
Poteau senior forward Kaitlan Standridge signed a letter of intent with Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant in a signing ceremony Wednesday morning inside the high school.

Poteau boys golf team, Pirate individual win Ranger Invitational

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates golf team and Poteau golfer Cody Shore won titles at the Roland Ranger Invitational, which took place Tuesday at Ben Geren Golf Course.
The Pirates won the team title with a 309, finishing six shots ahead of Sallisaw (315).
Individually, Shore was the top medalist with a 69, and he was not the only Pirate medalist.
Connor Wheat was the sixth-place medalist at 79, Jarrett Lowrimore was seventh (80) and John Scott Sanders was eighth (81). Jerry Loggains shot a 98.
