Bokoshe Tigers like chances in Friday’s district road game against Paoli Pugs

If ever there was a chance for the Bokoshe Tigers to notch win No. 1 for the 2014 season as well as in District C-4 play, it could very well be Friday night’s 7:30 p.m. district road game against the Paoli Pugs.
The Tigers (0-7 overall, 0-5 in district play) and the Pugs (0-7, 0-5) each will seek their first wins of the season.

Freshmen, PKMS games at Sallisaw are Monday

Due to the wrong date being submitted to the Poteau Daily News, the make-up road games for the Poteau freshmen and the Pansy Kidd Middle School teams at Sallisaw will be played Monday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Sallisaw’s Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
The games were originally reported to have been played Wednesday night.

Poteau Pirates football coach Greg Werner said that last week’s game against Broken Bow, Friday night’s home game against Sallisaw and the road game next week against Fort Gibson are the three most important games of the season.
The Pirates took care of the first game, winning last Thursday night against the Savages. Now come the Black Diamonds, and senior linebacker Eli Mapes can’t wait.

Former Poteau golfer places in top eight for UALR Lady Trojans

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Former Poteau Lady Pirate golfer Hannah Ward, who was a three-time Class 4A state champion, placed in the top eight at the Blue Raider Invitational, which took place last weekend.
Ward tied for eighth place with a 71-75-77—223.

Panama Razorbacks want to keep things going Friday night against Wilburton Diggers

After losing by 40 points against Hartshorne on Oct. 3, the Panama Razorbacks have earned two dominating wins — routing Foyil 40-2 on Oct. 10 and archrival Pocola 48-0 last week.
The Hogs (5-2 overall, 3-1 in District 2A-6 play) will look to win for the third straight time this week when they entertain the Wilburton Diggers at 7 p.m. Friday at George Ollie Stadium.

Arkoma looks to end losing streak, faces Wetumka

The good news for the Arkoma Mustangs football team was it had a better game Thursday night for homecoming against Haileyville than in weeks past, although they lost 62-36 to the Warriors. The performance is still something the Mustangs (1-6 overall, 0-6 in District B-4 play) can build upon as they get ready to travel to meet the Wetumka Chieftains (3-4, 3-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Poteau Youth Wrestling practices have started.
Open wrestlers will practice from 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
The organization’s own tournament will be Nov. 8 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Poteau freshmen beat McAlester, but JV falls

The Poteau Pirates freshmen football team got a home win Monday night at Costner Stadium, downing the McAlester Buffaloes 30-16. However, the Poteau junior varsity wasn't as fortunate as the Buffaloes nipped the Pirates 21-20.
While the season ended for the JV, the freshmen will play Wednesday at Sallisaw after the Pansy Kidd Middle School teams play. Games will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.

Poteau Bandit League teams sweep Van Buren Green; Sixth-graders begin playoffs Saturday at home against Spiro; the others get first-round byes

The regular season ended on a high note for the Poteau Bandit League teams last Saturday at Costner Stadium as all four squads posted victories over Van Buren [Ark.] Green. The sixth-graders won 42-28, the fifth-graders 14-12, the fourth-graders 19-6 and the third-graders 24-0.
All four teams will be in postseason play from here on, with the sixth-graders entertaining Spiro at 11 a.m. Saturday at Costner Stadium in an opening-round game. The fifth-, fourth- and third-graders all received first-round byes and won’t play a playoff game until Nov. 1.
