Third-quarter turnovers doom Heavener against Eufaula

HEAVENER — Two crucial turnovers in the third quarter proved to be the difference makers as the Eufaula Ironheads rallied from a halftime deficit to down the Heavener Wolves 17-14 to spoil homecoming and the home opener for the locals Friday night at Harvey Stadium.

WELEETKA — The Arkoma Mustangs held with the homestanding Weleetka Outlaws in Friday night’s District B-4 contest, but in the end the home team posted a 58-12 win.

Bokoshe Tigers fall to Sasakwa Vikings

SASAKWA — The Bokoshe Tigers are still looking for their first win of the season.
The Sasakwa Vikings handled the Tigers 54-0 in a game that ended by the mercy rule.
The Tigers dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in District C-4 play, while the Vikings improved to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in district play.

Spiro takes District 3A-8 opener over Roland in battle of unbeatens

SPIRO — In a battle of unbeatens Friday night at McClain Stadium, the Spiro Bulldogs got past the Roland Rangers 32-21 in the District 3A-8 opener for both teams.
After trending by 11 at halftime, the Bulldogs (4-0 overall, 1-0 in district play) exploded with 20 second-half points and shut out the Rangers (3-1, 0-1) in the final half.

Second-ranked Golden Tigers claw Savanna in A-6 opener

TALIHINA — In the past couple of seasons, the Talihina-Savanna game has been a tight one, and has had its hand in determining the District A-6 champion. It probably did so again Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium, but it was anything but tight.
The Golden Tigers scored the game’s first 34 points en route to a 66-14 rout of the Bulldogs.

Pocola Indians get first win of season, defeat Warner Eagles

The Pocola Indians were able to seal the victory 28-26 Friday night at John Carter Field in Pocola, despite a late second-half charge from the Warner Eagles to get their first win of the season.

Poteau celebrates homecoming with Muldrow victory Friday

The Poteau Pirates started their district quest off with a resounding 38-13 victory over the Muldrow Bulldogs to celebrate homecoming Friday night at Costner Stadium.
The Pirates (2-2 overall, 1-0 in District 4A-4 play) scored at will in the opening half, and then coasted home as their full roster got playing time in the second half.

'Bobbi's Big Chili Dog Bash' scheduled Oct. 5

There will be a benefit dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 for Bobbi Gillham at the Poteau Upper Elementary cafeteria. Chili, hot dogs and Frito chili pie will be on the menu.
There will be an auction at 12:30 p.m. I hear that Linda Newman's chocolate chip cookies and Elaine Jensen's fried pies will be headlining the auction.
If you can, come by and have some fun at “Bobbi's Big Chili Dog Bash.”

Cameron boys closing in on district title; ’Jackets beat host Wister, Howe; Lions fall to ’Cats to see season end

WISTER — The Cameron Yellowjackets baseball team could be celebrating a district title this morning.
The ‘Jackets defeated the host Wister Wildcats 3-1 and the Howe Lions 2-0 to make it to Friday afternoon's Class A District Tournament title game undefeated.
The Lions saw their season end as they lost 11-1 to the ’Cats after losing to to Cameron.
