LEFLORE — The Leflore Lady Savages ended their pre-Christmas break with a dramatic home win Thursday night on Nadine Carpenter Court as they nipped the Bokoshe Lady Tigers 55-53.
The Lady Savages outscored the Lady Tigers in the final period by two points, 20-18, to break a 35-all tie after three quarters.
Howe 66, Smithville 26: In Howe, the Lady Lions remained undefeated and celebrated homecoming to boot. Leading 15-13 after a period, they outscored the Lady Braves 26-3 in the second quarter to take a 41-16 at halftime.

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages basketball team ended their pre-Christmas break part of their season by hitting the century mark in a 105-43 victory over the Bokoshe Tigers on Thursday night on Nadine Carpenter Court.
The Savages jumped out to a 30-6 lead after a period and never looked back.
Howe 62, Smithville 32: In Howe, the Lions made it a happy homecoming, clawing the Braves 18-9 in the opening period en route to a 29-11 halftime advantage.

Talihina boys open season with home win over Antlers

TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers got their basketball season off and running Tuesday night with a 50-41 victory over the Antlers Bearcats on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
The Golden Tigers led 18-13 after a period en route to a 38-21 halftime lead thanks to outscoring the ’Cats 20-8 in the second quarter.

Bokoshe girls lose close game to Kinta

KINTA — The Kinta Lady Eagles used a strong fourth quarter to rally for a 49-45 home victory over the Bokoshe Lady Tigers on Tuesday night.
The Lady Eagles trailed 36-33 after three periods, but outscored the Lady Tigers 16-9 in the final quarter to get the come-from-behind victory.

Pocola boys suffer road loss to Wilburton

December 19, 2014

WILBURTON — The Pocola Indians had a rough outing Tuesday night as they lost to the homestanding Wilburton Diggers 50-18 at the Wilburton Gym.
The Diggers, who led 11-7 after a period, broke the game open by outscoring the Indians over the next two periods 12-4 in the second and 17-2 in the third to take a 40-13 lead into the final quarter.

Talihina boys, Howe girls top seeds in 2015 LeFlore County Tournament

The Talihina Golden Tigers and the Howe Lady Lions were awarded the top seeds in the 2015 LeFlore County Tournament, which will be Jan. 19-24.
On the boys side, Talihina was seeded No. 1. Last season’s county champion Spiro Bulldogs got the second seed, with Whitesboro third and Poteau fourth.
The LCT host Howe Lions are fifth, with Leflore sixth, Heavener seventh, Wister eight, Cameron ninth and Arkoma 10th. Panama was voted as the 11th seed, Pocola 12th and Bokoshe 13th.
On the girls’ side, the county-tournament host Lady Lions got the top seed, just edging out Arkoma and Spiro.

Poteau wrestlers having own tournament this weekend; finals slated for approximately 3 p.m. Saturday

The Poteau Pirates wrestling team will put an end to the pre-Christmas portion of its season this weekend with its “Border Brawl” tournament, which will take place Friday and Saturday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. Matches will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, then resume at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The finals are slated to begin approximately at 3 p.m., possibly even beginning as early as 2:30 p.m.

Arkoma Mustangs football players recognized by District B-4

It was a rough inaugural season in District B-4 for the Arkoma Mustangs, who went 0-9 in district play this past season. However, Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said that just about after every game, his counterpart praised the Mustangs for the hard-earned play each week.
That hard-earned play did not go unnoticed by the district coaches as four Mustangs got recognition on the All-District B-4 Team for 2014.

Poteau basketball teams split home openers with Roland; Pirates get first win for new coach, PHS alum

The Poteau Pirates got their first win of the season and for new coach, PHS alum Todd Hackler, Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse as they downed the Roland Rangers 54-40.
However, the Lady Rangers opened the night with a 52-32 victory over the Lady Pirates.
