HARTSHORNE â€” The Heavener Lady Wolves won the Class 3A District Tournament on Friday night, downing the host Hartshorne Lady Miners 40-32. However, the Wolves lost 70-35 to the Miners in the boys title game.
Both teams will play Thursday in the Class 3A Regional Tournament at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym. The Wolves will play Salina in an elimination game at 3 p.m., while the Lady Wolves will meet subsite host Spiro at 6:30 p.m. for the right to play for the regional title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Muskogee Civic Center.
WILBURTON â€” The Red Oak basketball teams swept the Class B Regional Tournament titles Saturday night at the Wilburton Gym.
The Eagles beat the Leflore Savages 49-29 in Saturday nightâ€™s finals right after the Lady Eagles flew past the Buffalo Valley Lady Buffaloes 48-23 in the girlsâ€™ title game.
The Bokoshe Lady Tigers won the consolation championship with a 55-50 victory over the Leflore Lady Savages after the Lady Tigers eliminated the Smithville Lady Braves 46-38.
The Buffalo Valley boys won the consolation title game with a 66-63 win over the Eagletown Eagles.
The Pocola Lady Indians and the homestanding Talihina Golden Tigers won their championship games in the Class 2A District Tournament on Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
The Lady Indians used a strong third quarter to get past a pesky Crowder Demonettes team by the score of 55-41, while the Golden Tigers roared past the Demons 67-28.
Both Crowder teams ended the seasons for the Indians and the Lady Golden Tigers on Friday night. Crowder's boys nipped Pocola 47-45, while the Crowder girls beat Talihina 48-31.
The Poteau Pirates appeared to be on their way to an easy Class 4A District Tournament title-game victory Friday night over the homestanding Muldrow Bulldogs, but the â€™Dogs were not ready to circle the wagons. In fact, the Bulldogs even had the lead in the waning seconds, but the Pirates found a way to get the game into overtime and prevailed 58-54.
The Lady Pirates fell 49-31 in the girlsâ€™ district-title game to the Lady Bulldogs to begin the night of hoops.
HOWE â€” The Howe High School basketball teams took the first step on the easier paths to the Class 2A State Tournament by winning district titles Saturday night at the Howe Gym.
In the Class 2A District Tournament, both Howe teams beat Panama, the Lady Lions winning 67-24 and the Lions holding on for a 41-39 win.
The Lady Razorbacks and Hogs reached the title game with Friday night wins over Porter Consolidated. The Panama girls won 45-32, while the boys posted a 69-59 win.
All four local teams will be in the Class 2A Regional Tournament later this week at Talihina.
TUPELO â€” Blake-Blagg Tidwellâ€™s buzzer-beating 3-point basket from 20-plus feet away propeled the Whitesboro Bulldogs to a 38-36 victory over the Chattanooga Warriors in the title game of the Class B Regional Tournament on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs will meet the Red Oak Eagles at 8 p.m. Friday in Colbert for the area championship and a trip to state. However, the loser will have one more shot at state in the consolation finals at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Behind great defense and going 34-of-40 [85 percent] from the free-throw line proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 77-65 win over the 13th-ranked Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets on Sophomore Night Â on Thursday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Shooting 52.7 percent from the field proved to be the difference for the Jets in their 86-83 win over the Vikings in Thursday night's nightcap.
The Carl Albert State College softball team split its home games Thursday afternoon with Coffeyville, Kan.
The Lady Vikings rallied in the opener for an 8-7 victory in eight innings, but they dropped the nightcap 8-6 in another eight-inning contest.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 1 p.m. Tuesday in a road doubleheader against the Bacone College junior varsity in Muskogee.
