TAHLEQUAH — The Poteau Lady Pirates lost for the third straight time this week, dropping a pair of games to the Tahlequah Lady Tigers by scores of 9-0 and 18-3.
In the opener, the Lady Pirates only had four hits.
In the nightcap, the Lady Pirates rallied to cut the deficit to 7-3 in the second inning, but the Lady Tigers put the game into run-rule status with an 11-run second inning.
Cameron 8, Arkoma 4; Arkoma 12, Cameron 4: Tuesday in Cameron, the county rivals split their doubleheader.

Poteau soccer teams open district play with road wins

The Poteau High School soccer teams opened district play with two different games at two different sites, but the outcomes were the same — wins.
The Pirates traveled to Hugo and routed the host Buffaloes 10-0, while the Lady Pirates returned to their winning ways with a 2-1 district road victory against Keys (Park Hill).
The Poteau teams will return to action next Tuesday night for their homecoming games against Hilldale at Costner Stadium. The girls' contest will be at 5 p.m, followed by the boys' game at 7 p.m.

Pocola pitcher throws perfect game against Wilburton; Indians run record to 9-0 with victory

POCOLA — Behind the strong pitching Ricky Manzano, the Pocola Indians improved top 9-0 Monday afternoon as Manzano threw a perfect five innings against the Wilburton Diggers, blanking them 10-0.

TALIHINA — Two big innings propeled the Talihina Golden Tigers past the Howe Lions 9-1 Monday afternoon for their first win of the season.
With the game tied at 1 in the fourth inning, the Golden Tigers scored three runs in the fourth inning and a six-run fifth ended the game by run rule.
Leflore 8, Panola 4: In Leflore, the Savages broke a 2-all tie with a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by Garrett Singleterry's two-run home run, to take a 7-2 lead after five innings.

POCOLA — The Wister Lady Wildcats began the post-spring break portion of their slow-pitch softball season with a 5-3 road win over the Pocola Lady Indians on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Wildcats got all five runs in the second inning to break a scoreless deadlock.
A Courtney Hargrove two-run double in the fifth inning cut the deficit to 5-3, but the Lady Indians got no closer.

Spiro boys top seed in 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament

HEAVENER — The Spiro Bulldogs, who were runners-up in last year's LeFlore County Baseball Tournament, were awarded the top seed of this season's event, which will begin Monday at four different sites.
At Tuesday afternoon's seeding meeting at Heavener High School, this year's host school, the Bulldogs got the top seed, followed by Poteau — last year's champion — and Pocola. All three will receive opening-round byes.

Sallisaw edges Poteau boys

The last time the Poteau Pirates were home at Town Creek Park, they posted a pair of wins over Wister and Checotah. They returned to their friendly confines Monday night, but the outcome wasn't the same as they lost 4-3 to the Sallisaw Black Diamonds.

Red Oak girls hand Poteau first loss

It was a case of one team getting hits, the Red Oak Lady Eagles, and the other team, the Poteau Lady Pirates, not when they met Monday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles outhit the Lady Pirates 20 to 5 en route to a 12-1 victory to hand Poteau its first loss this season.

Whitesboro boys suffer losses to Anadarko Riverside, Okarche in Union City Festival on Friday

OKARCHE — The Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team lost identical 10-5 contests to the Anadarko Riverside Braves and the Okarche Warriors on Friday in the final day of the Union City Festival.
