It's football tab week for me, so I may not visit too many diamonds this week

August 26, 2014

I know this column is about the action on the diamond, but I wanted to let you know since this week I'll be preparing the 2014 LeFlore County Gridirion Preview football special section, I may not be out at the diamond as I would normally be.
Just be patient with this humble sports writer. The coverage won't slack off, nor will it not get reported throughout the week. I'll just need a little more help than normal.
Next week, it will be more of a “normal” week [assuming those actually exist], and I'll be able to get back to a normal routine of covering events.

A humid scrimmage for Poteau, Heavener

August 25, 2014

It was hot and humid for the Poteau Pirates and the Heavener Wolves in their football scrimmage Friday night at Heavener’s Harvey Stadium.
Both teams appeared to be primed for their county rivals, even though it was listed as a scrimmage.
The Wolves are being led by a new coach Sam Hembree, a home grown Wolf.
Both teams ran 12-play series for both first and second units.
One could sense an upbeat attitude by the Wolves. Both teams played on level ground for about the first 40 plays, but at that point the depth of the Pirates began to come to the forefront.
