Pocola beats Seminole, Stilwell in Spring Break Festival games

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians kept their unbeaten record intact Wednesday as they picked up a pair of wins at their site of the Cameron Spring Break Festival. The Indians outlasted the Seminole Chieftains 12-11 then blanked the Stilwell Indians 5-0.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Poteau Pirates baseball team finally got to play some baseball in “The Sunshine State” on Tuesday, beating Van Meter, Iowa, 3-2, but losing 6-1 to Faith Baptist, Fla.
Heavener 10, Stuart 2; Heavener 7, Roland 0: In Heavener, the Wolves ran their record to 8-0 with the two wins.
In the victory over Class B's seventh-ranked Hornets, Dillion May got the complete-game victory.
In the win over the Rangers, Colby McGee got the complete-game shutout.

Spiro boys go 2-0 in Spring Break Festival

SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs baseball team won both games played in Tuesday's Eastern Oklahoma Spring Break Festival, outlasting both Beggs 9-6 and Salina 20-12.

Lady Viking makes Region II's Women's All-Tournament Team

Carl Albert State College Lady Viking, and former Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Lady Bear, Kilah Cummings, a 5-9 freshman power forward has been named to the Region II All-Tournament Team.
“Kilah is really well deserving of this honor,” CASC women's coach Jeff Tadtman said. “She had a really great year for us. Kilah was really one of the dominant players in the tournament.”

Local basketball players make All-Arklahoma Basketball Dream Team; three hoopsters, Arkoma coach nab special honors

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Several local high school basketball players and a local coach were named to the All-Arklahoma Basketball Dream Team, which was announced at a banquet Monday night.
Three players and a coach got special honors. Arkoma girls coach Connie Ray was named the Girls Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Mustangs to the Class A State Tournament earlier this month for the first time in 22 years.
Ray's player, junior guard Abby Gragg, was given the Sportsmanship Award.

What a season is was for LeFlore County basketball

Although each of the four LeFlore County High School basketball teams that made state lost in the quarterfinals, that doesn't dampen the success there was on the hardwood this past season.
Arkoma's girls, Howe's boys and the Spiro teams made state to cap what was a very good season of county hoops.

Former Carl Albert State College Lady Viking Ashala “Ace” Watson, a 5-3 junior point guard from Magnolia, Ark., and currently playing for the Lyon College Scots, which is a NAIA Division I school in Batesville, Ark., has been named the American Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“Ace” is excited about going to the national tournament for the first time as her Lady Scots (24-8) and seeded fourth will play fifth-seeded John Brown University (25-7) at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Women's NAIA Division I National Tournament in Frankfort, Ky.

Carl Albert State College basketball player Mairega Clark, a 6-5 freshman wing player from Hollis, N.Y., has been named to the Third Team All-Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Poteau soccer boys second in Fort Smith Invitational; Lady Pirates tie twice, fall to Greenwood

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates soccer team came in runners-up at the Fort Smith Invitational last weekend.
After beating Mena, Ark., 7-0 and Van Buren, Ark., 3-0, the Pirates fell 1-0 in the title game to host Greenwood.
The Lady Pirates went 0-1-2 in their three games. After playing to scoreless ties against Mena and Van Buren, they lost 3-1 to Greenwood.
The Poteau teams will return to action next Tuesday afternoon at different venues as district play will begin. The Pirates will head to Hugo, while the Lady Pirates travel to Keys (Park Hill). Both contests will begin at 5 p.m.
