Poteau golfer makes All-State Team, four local hoopsters do likewise

June 20, 2015

Poteau golfer Cody Shore was not able to repeat as Class 4A state champion last month, but he did get the top possible honor.
Shore, who was ninth at last month's Class 4A State Tournament, was the highest senior to finish from the East to automatically qualify for the 2015 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Golf Tournament in late July.
Shore is one of four LeFlore County athletes as well as a Red Oak Lady Eagle to make All-State teams — all doing so in basketball.

Red Oak Summer Slam to begin Monday, but new schedule is being drawn up

June 19, 2015

After being rained out thanks to remnants of Tropical Depression Bill, the 2015 Red Oak Summer Slam, that was to have started Wednesday, will begin Monday.
However, the original schedule is being changed, and it was not available at press time. Once it’s made available to The Poteau Daily News, it will be put up on our website’s sports page.
Tuesday’s schedule will appear in Tuesday’s edition, with Wednesday’s bracket action teams and match-ups to set up for crowning the tournament’s champion not being determined until after all action on the first two days are completed.

Rain, threat of showers washes out Red Oak Summer Slam for Thursday

June 17, 2015

It feels like May all over again. For the second straight day, the first day of action in the Red Oak Summer Slam softball tournament was rained out at all three sites — Carl Albert State College, both fields in Red Oak and Wilburton — for today after being so on the event’s originally-scheduled starting day on Wednesday.
As of press time, it was uncertain what was going to be done, or if the entire event was just going to be a wash.
Keep checking our website at www.poteaudailynews.com as well as our physical and electronic editions for further updates.
