I finally had knee surgery

Last Friday, I finally had surgery on my knee at The River Valley Orthopedic Hopsital in Fort Smith, Ark. This facility is so nice. The cafeteria is beyond first class, and I was so surprised by the food.
But, back to my knee surgery. Dr. Steve Smith did the surgery, and he was such a great guy — I really liked him a lot.

The Poteau High School basketball teams’ Pink-Out Games will be Tuesday against Spiro at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, with the girls’ game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys’ contest at 8 p.m.
There will be baked goods for sale with all proceeds to be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The second annual Hungry Like the Wolf 5k/10k fun run/walk and two-mile walk will take place beginning at noon Feb. 21 at Blues Park in Heavener. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Packets may also be picked up from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Heavener High School.

Howe, Arkoma girls reach championship semifinals; Poteau Pirates survive scare from host Howe, while Spiro Bulldogs do likewise against Heavener

Four teams punched their ticket to the championship semifinals of the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament on Day 2 of the event at the Howe Gym.
The Howe Lady Lions, the top seed, had little problem with the Wister Lady Wildcats in a 74-26 victory, while second-seeded Arkoma got past Pocola 44-35.
The two boys games at this site were nailbiters. The Poteau Pirates survived an upset bid by the host Howe Lions to post a 47-46 victory, while the Spiro Bulldogs did likewise with the Heavener Wolves as the ’Dogs prevailed 28-26 in a low-scoring affair.

For the first time in three seasons, the Poteau Lady Pirates will not win the county tournament.
After winning the 81st and 82nd LeFlore County tournaments, the Lady Pirates’ bid for a three-peat got derailed by Carleigha Thompson and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs as they posted a 66-57 victory in the championship quarterfinals Tuesday night at the Wister Gym.
The other game at this site saw the boys’ top seed, the Talihina Golden Tigers, prove to be too much for the homestanding Wister Wildcats as they prevailed 64-39.

Leflore boys knock off Whitesboro, while Heavener’s girls nip Leflore in LCT championship quarterfinals; Bokoshe girls, Pocola boys stay alive, reach consolation semifinals with Tuesday’s wins

The Leflore Savages, the sixth-seeded team, pulled off the upset as they downed the third-seeded Whtiesboro Bulldogs 47-41 Tuesday night at Carl Albert State College’s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Heavener Lady Wolves got past the Leflore Lady Savages 46-43 in the other championship quarterfinal at CASC.

Wister teams win home games in LCT; Wildcats beat Cameron, Lady ’Cats rally past Whitesboro

The Wister High School basketball teams toook advantage of getting the opportunity to play on their home court on opening night of the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament as they picked up home wins to advance to the championship quarterfinals.
The Wildcats kept the Cameron Yellowjackets at bay with a 74-62 win, while the Lady ’Cats rallied from a 10-point opening-quarter deficit to down the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs 49-37.

Poteau wrestlers celebrate homecoming with victory over Checotah on Tuesday; Pirates return to action Thursday night against Greenwood

The Poteau High School wrestling team made it a happy homecoming Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse with a 52-30 victory over the Checotah Wildcats.
The Pirates will return to action tonight with a home dual against Greenwood, Ark., with the junior high dual beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the high school dual at 7 p.m.

Pirates, Lady Savages, Heavener teams victorious on opening night at CASC

All four top-seeded teams who were in action at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse were winners on opening night of the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament on Monday night.
The Poteau Pirates overmatched the Bokoshe Tigers for an 80-39 victory, while the Leflore Lady Savages got past the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets 48-35.
Both Heavener teams won, with the Lady Wolves clawing the Bokoshe Lady Tigers 59-35 and the Wolves got past a pesky Arkoma Mustang team 52-45.

The two-time defending LeFlore County Tournament girls champions, the Poteau Lady Pirates, took a step in the right direction in their three-peat efforts Monday night as they picked up a 42-23 opening-round victory over the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers as the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament got underway at the Howe Gym.
There were three other winners on the night. The Pocola Lady Indians got past their archrivals, the Panama Lady Razorbacks, 34-30 in the other girls contest at this site.
