Due to wet fields, today’s opening-day games were postponed until Tuesday, with Tuesday’s originally-slated games taking place Thursday. Thursday’s games will take place Monday, meaning it will be next week before the county champion will be crowned.

September 15, 2014

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they still came up short as they lost in overtime 28-20 to the Bison.
The Tigers tied the game at 20-all on a 31-yard run by Christian Stroup.

September 15, 2014

GANS — The Arkoma Mustangs, who made history last football season by winning the school’s first-ever playoff game, had a chance to make some more history Friday night in their District B-4 opener against the homestanding Gans Grizzlies. Unfortunately, the Mustangs couldn’t close the deal.
The Grizzlies, who trailed 42-32 entering the final period, scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally for a 48-42 victory over the Mustangs.
The Mustangs still had a chance to down the Grizzlies, but Arkoma fumbled the ball at the Gans 10 with about two minutes to play.

Van Buren Pointers use strong second half to down Poteau Pirates

September 13, 2014

If Poteau was to stay in the game, the Pirates had to perform at their max level. One major factor in the game would have to be the Pirates were issued 13 penalties for 106 yards. Instead of going 10 yards for first downs, most of the time they faced first-and-big yard.
The host Van Buren [Ark.] Pointers scored four second half touchdowns to post the 41-8 victory.

Poteau JV gets past Pocola

September 13, 2014

Mother Nature played a trick on both teams, giving them a cold drizzle all game long, helping both teams to have numerous fumbles and errors handling the ball. The Indians were dealt a devastating blow as Senior De'Aundre Wilkins left the game late in the second quarter with an ankle injury.
The Poteau Pirates junior varsity saw three true freshman rise in value, Juan Martinez, Matthew Alvardo and Jamison Shackleford, as they all appeared skilled and matured beyond their tender age.
