CASC sophomore baseball players heading to four-year schools; Vian duo heading to UCO, while Dodd going to UAFS

Carl Albert State College has been noted for seeing its baseball players sign with four-year schools for their final two years of collegiate eligibility. The trend continues.
Three sophomores of the 2015 Vikings team have signed with four-year schools. The Vian duo of pitcher Shawn Troutman and catcher Dan Weer signed with the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, while pitcher Wyatt “Evan” Dodd, who went to Sallisaw-Central High School, signed with the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Soccer seniors want to return to state finals, avenge 2014 state semifinal loss to Santa Fe South

For the seven senior players on the Poteau Pirates soccer team, tonight’s Class 4A state semifinal match against the Oklahoma Santa Fe South Saints, which will kickoff at 6 tonight at Costner Stadium, will be a big one.

Pocola girls, Wister boys representing county at state

There will be two teams at state this week — one a bunch of diamond dolls — the Pocola Lady Indians, another a bunch of diamond guys, the Wister Wildcats.
The Lady Indians were rained out of their Class 4A State Tournament last Wednesday, but they'll try it once again this Wednesday, meeting Stratford at 11:30 a.m. at the Ballfields at Firelake. The Class 4A state bracket will appear in Wednesday's edition.

After a couple seasons without a trip to state, the Wister Wildcats baseball team will do so this week.
The Wildcats blanked the Panama Razorbacks 3-0 in Friday night’s Class 2A Regional Tournament finals at Town Creek Park.
The ’Cats (21-5) will find out today who, when and where they will play their Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinal contest. Some of the Class 2A Regional Tournaments were not completed until Monday.

Shady Point trio place at ORES State Meet

McALESTER — Three Shady Point track athletes placed at the 2015 Organization of Rural Elementary Schols State Meet, which took place May 2 at Hook-Eales Stadium.
Marlene Miller was third in the high jump (4-4), Shaylin Midgley was fifth in the shot put (29-10.5) and Luis Yarberry was fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.25 seconds) and the in the high jump (4-10).

Poteau golfer ties for 25th at state

OKLAHOMA CITY — Poteau golfer Dallas Terry tied for 25th at the Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Wednesday and Thursday at Lake Hefner South Golf Course. She shot a 97 in Thursday’s final round to end with a 185, tying Cushing’s Taylor Smith and Cleveland’s Maddie DeBernardo.
After the opening round on Wednesday, Terry was tied for 19th after she shot an 88.

Defending state golf champ wants to go out in style; Shore, Pirates will play Monday, Tuesday at state in OKC

Poteau senior golfer Cody Shore can go out as the two-time defending Class 4A state champion when the state tournament ends its 54-hole event Tuesday afternoon at Lake Hefner North Golf Course in Oklahoma City — the event will begin Monday. Shore would like that, but said that nothing can ever take away from the fact that he will go down as one of Oklahoma's state champions no matter his finish in next week's state tournament.
“It would be icing on the cake,” Shore said. “Once was awesome, two would just be icing on the cake.”

No playoff baseball for Poteau until Monday

The waiting game continues for the Poteau Pirates baseball team.
The Class 4A Regional Tournament at Byng's Stokes Field will not resume until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the earliest due to rain and wet fields.
Poteau coach Andy Perdue was hoping to resume the regional Friday afternoon at one of the other three teams' home fields — even Town Creek Park. However, Perdue said in a text message that while Town Creek Park was in playable condition, Byng Public School's administration believes the weather conditions are too unsafe for its Pirates to travel east.

Lady Wolves’ senior track trio want to end careers on high note at state, which got postponed until Monday, Tuesday due to rain

For the three Heavener Lady Wolves track seniors — Shaylie Sanders, Johna Enger and Lexi Moody — they want to end their high school careers on a high note at next week’s Class 3A State Meet, which will be Monday and Tuesday at Moore’s Lions Stadium. The meet was to have been Friday and Saturday, but was rained out.
