MUSKOGEE — The Poteau Lady Pirates suffered their first two losses of the young slow-pitch softball season on Monday. The host Lady Roughers run ruled the Lady Pirates 16-2, then Poteau lost 10-1 to Broken Arrow.
Heavener 8, McCurtain 6; Red Oak 9, Heavener 2: In McCurtain, the Lady Wolves split their games on Monday.
A five-run third inning helped propel the Lady Wolves to the win over the host Lady Bulldogs.
In the loss to Red Oak, the Lady Wolves could only score single runs in the first and second innings.

Late run lifts Spiro girls past Wister Monday afternoon

WISTER — When the Wister Lady Wildcats and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play Monday afternoon, the match-up was to have been in Spiro.
But due to wet fields, the game was moved to Wister — which meant the Lady ’Cats would end up getting last at-bats. But that didn't keep the Lady Bulldogs from posting a win.
A seventh-inning run broke a 5-all tie to propel the Spiro girls to a 6-5 win over Wister.

Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.

Poteau Pirates down Checotah

In the world of baseball, a team does not have to wait very long to have a chance to rebound from a loss. Just take the Poteau Pirates.
Just 72 hours after they lost their home opener to the Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Grizzlies, the Pirates rebounded in fine fashion to down the Checotah Wildcats 10-5 Friday afternoon at Town Creek Park.

NEWLY UPDATED SCHEDULE: Several of Monday, Saturday, Friday games canceled due to rain, wet fields; Carl Albert's home softball doubleheader canceled; Lady Vikings hit road today

Sunday's rain canceled a lot of Monday afternoon's baseball and softball games due to wet fields.
The Cameron-Panama softball game and Leflore's softball game at Clayton were all canceled on Monday due to wet fields. The Cameron-Panama game will not be made up, while no make-up date for the Leflore-Clayton game has been scheduled at this time.
Howe's softball action at Red Oak was canceled because the Lady Eagles joined Heavener to form a three-way at McCurtain on Monday.

SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs ran their record to 3-0 with a 14-3 five-inning, run-rule victory Saturday afternoon over the Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Grizzlies.
Trailing 3-0 after the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs broke the game open with a four-run first inning and a pair of five-run innings in the second and third innings to take a 14-3 lead.
Cameron 6, Hackett, Ark., 4: Friday afternoon in Hackett, down 4-3 after three innings, the Yellowjackets scored twice in the fifth inning and once in the sixth to get the come-from-behind victory.

Carl Albert baseball team splits Saturday home twinbill with Arkansas Baptist

The Carl Albert State College baseball team split its home doubleheader with Arkansas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field. The Vikings took the opener 8-4, but lost the nightcap 5-2.
The Vikings will begin two days of back-to-back home doubleheaders with Kirkwood, Iowa at Ival Goodman Field this afternoon. The two teams will play a noon twinbill today, followed by a 12:30 p.m. Wednesday doubleheader.

SHAWNEE — Behind Kyndall Dudley's 22 points and 18 points each from Connor Brooks and Dalen Qualls, the third-seeded Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets dominated the 10th-seeded Carl Albert State College Vikings in their 102-68 win in the 2012 NJCAA Region II Tournament semifinal game Saturday night at Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex.
The Vikings did make some noise on Friday afternoon as they shocked the second-seeded Connors State College Cowboys in their 71-64 win.
Saturday night's loss ends the Vikings' season at 7-24.
