Archery season, baseball playoffs are here

October 3, 2013

Tuesday was the opening day of deer archery and bear archery season. If you have not bought your bear tag, you are out of luck because you must buy it before archery season starts.
I do not agree with us having to buy a tag by a certain date to kill a bear, but that is the rule so I will not buy one. I may try to hunt a bear in the future, and the wildlife department is giving us more of an opportunity to kill one — but this year is not the year that I will hunt them.

October 2, 2013

In my last column I talked about grand slams. You can have a grand slam in baseball, bridge, tennis and golf.
I also talked about triple crowns and you can have a triple crown in baseball and horse racing.
Editor's note: Due to not receiving all the Poteau Bandit League games' information by press time, the story with their games Saturday at Greenwood, Ark., is not in today's edition. As soon as all the information is received, the story will be published.
