Wednesday's bowling night reminded me of 'The Beverly Hillbillies'

March 29, 2013

I went bowling Wednesday night at Strikes-a-Lot with the Double Branch Church. It was just like “The Beverly Hillbillies” came to town. I never laughed so hard in my life.
Brandon Wann and I teamed up against Johnny and Sara Baker, who creamed us 238 to 184. We really tried, but I knew the Bakers knew how to bowl because both of them bowled strikes on their first attempts. I still can't believe they beat us. We even had a bowling coach, “Superstar” Larry Wann. Back in the 1980s, he was a bowling machine. I bet he still has his ball, and, at one time, thought about turning pro.

Tennessee vacation is over, and Double Cross Calls just beginning

March 28, 2013

Well, we made it back from Tennessee without incident. The Smokey Mountains are awesome, and there are a bunch of deer and turkeys out there. I am planning a hunting trip to “The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area” in the near future.
We spent part of the vacation on the shores of Kentucky Lake, and got to fish just a bit even though the weather was not very good. Wally Burchett let us stay in his cabin, which is bigger than my house.

Biggest soccer game in Poteau history set for tonight

March 28, 2013

Tonight's soccer game between the top two boys soccer teams in Class 4A — No. 1 Fort Gibson and No. 2 Poteau — at 7 p.m. is perhaps the most important soccer match in Poteau Pirate history.
The Pirates lost last year's state semifinal game to eventual state champion Oklahoma City Mount St. Mary.
The Pirates lost three All-State players as Spencer Hall, Blake Williams and Jesse Woodson graduated. However, due to their expertise and returning most of their team intact, the Pirates are drawing favorable attention and affirmation.
